Today, let me show you, what can foreigners do after getting permanent residence in China?
长期在华停留 Long stay in China
没有绿卡的外籍人士需要每年更新一次居留许可，且在华停留时间以及地点都有限制。
Foreigners without a Chinese green card need to renew their residence permit once a year. There are also limitations over the time duration and location they can stay within the PRC.
但，绿卡的期限一般是5-10年（18岁以下有效期为5年，18岁以上有效期为10年），而且，绿卡是由公安机关签发的，在全国范围内都有效，不存在地域限制。
In comparison, a Chinese green card for foreigners below 18 years of age is valid for five years and for those above 18, it is valid for 10 years. Because the Ministry of Public Security issues the card, it is valid throughout China.
方便出入境 Easy entry and exit
持有中国绿卡，无需签证即可自由进出中国，无次数限制，节省了每次申请通关签证的时间和花费。
With a Chinese green card, one can go in and out of China freely without needing a visa, thus a green card saves time and expense needed to get a visa each time you travel through customs.
另外，绿卡持有人的配偶及直系亲属，可按有关规定申请办理相应签证、居留证件或《外国人永久居留证》。
In addition, spouses and immediate family members of green card holders can apply for corresponding visas, residence permits or green card in accordance with relevant regulations.
没有工作许可的外籍人士，未经批准，依法不得在中国工作，即使成功申请到了工作许可，也会有许多从业限制，比如不可随意变更工作岗位以及工作地点等。
Expats without work permit are not allowed by law to work in China without approval. Even if they successfully apply for a work permit, there will be many restrictions on employment, such as the inability to change jobs and locations at will.
然而，这些限制并不适用于持有绿卡的外国人，也就是说，他们可以如中国公民一般，在华自由工作，并受中国劳动法保护。
However, there is no such employment regulation limiting foreigners with Chinese green cards. This means expats with a Chinese green card should be allowed to work freely and treated according to all Chinese labor laws.
在国内购物、购买公园及各类文体场馆门票、进行文化娱乐商旅等消费活动与中国公民同等待遇、价格相同。
The holders can conduct domestic shopping, purchase of various tickets, cultural, entertainment, business travel and other consumer activities have the same treatment and the same price as Chinese citizens.
凭绿卡登机、购买火车票和入住酒店，无需提前询问是否能接待外国人。
They can board the plane, buy train tickets and stay in hotels with a green card, without asking in advance if the hotel can accommodate foreigners.
子女教育 Children's education
持有中国绿卡的外籍人士与其居住地的中国公民享有同等的权利和义务（除了选举权、被选举权和服兵役权）。他们的子女可以与中国公民的子女一样，在义务教育阶段无需缴纳额外费用，享受在中国的受教育权。
Expats with a Chinese green card have the same rights and responsibilities (apart from the right to elect, be elected and serve military service) as Chinese citizens of the city they live in. Their children can go to school in the same way as the children of Chinese citizens without paying extra fees in compulsory education, enjoying the right to education in China.
可以参加社会保险或城镇居民基本医疗保险和社会养老保险，享受社会保险待遇。
They can participate in social insurance or urban residents’ basic medical insurance and social pension insurance, and enjoy social insurance benefits.
在工作地缴存和使用住房公积金，离开该地区时，可按规定办理住房公积金的提取或转移手续。购买自用自住商品房时不受外国人在华购房年限限制。
The holder can deposit and use the housing provident fund at the workplace, and when leaving the area, he or she can withdraw or transfer the fund according to regulations. The purchase of self-use and self-occupied commercial houses is not subject to the restrictions on the number of years that foreigners buy houses in China.
绿卡持有人不仅可以参加各城市的人才培养计划，申请人才或专家奖励，还可以参加专业资格考试。
They can join the city's talent cultivation projects and apply for awards given to talents and experts. They can also take part in professional qualification tests.
换汇 Foreign currency exchange
在国内取得的收入，依法纳税并持有税务部门出具的对外支付税务证明后，可兑换外汇汇出境外。
Income obtained by the holders in China can be converted into foreign exchange and remitted abroad after paying tax in accordance with the law and holding the tax certificate for external payment issued by the tax department.
总的来说，永居身份虽不能等同于国籍（公民身份），但是永居卡（绿卡）在使用上几乎可以等同于身份证，一证在手，外籍人士也可在中国畅通无阻！
In general, although permanent residence status cannot be equal to nationality (citizenship), the green card is almost equivalent to an ID card in terms of usage. A green card allows you to live in China like a Chinese citizen!
