For foreigners, having a Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card in China are equivalent to having a Chinese ID card. Whether it’s transportation or daily consumption, you only need to bring this card, no need to bring a passport!
Especially when entering or leaving China, you only need to carry your passport and permanent residence card. There is no need to apply for a Chinese visa or other types of residence permits. It's very convenient!
But why stop calling permanent residence card a Chinese Green card?
Because from December 1st, the "Five-Star Card" is here!

Many countries will give a nickname based on the characteristics of their country's permanent residence card. For example, the color of permanent residence card in the US is green, so it is called "Green Card". In Greece it is pink, so everyone calls it "Pink Card", and in Canada, it’s called "Maple Leaf Card" because it has maple leaf elements.
As we all know, Chinese national flag is Five-Star Red Flag. The new version of the Chinese permanent residence card has added five-star elements, so it's known as the "Five-Star Card". The new version has optimized information storage, and adopted more advanced anti-counterfeiting technology, to better protect personal information.

On the first day of its issue, a total of 50 foreigners from more than 20 countries including the US, the UK, Germany, and Russia, received the first batch of the cards in Beijing.
After the launch of the new card, the previous version is still valid within the expiration date. Holders can apply for a new card according to individual needs.
