Complete Guide: What to do if You Lose Your Passport in China?

Last month, a police station in Hubei province received a call from an international student from Pakistan who said his passport had been lost. He has been studying in China for six years and plans to return to Pakistan in mid-July after graduating this year. The police on duty immediately searched for the passport along his activity track and found his passport on the same day, which didn't delay his trip.

The most fearful thing when going out is losing things. Especially if you lose ID documents, such as passport, it will be even worse.

If you have lost your passport in China and are unable to find it, don't panic! Follow the application process below to get your new passport.

Step 1

Report to the local police station and obtain a "Receipt of Report".

Step 2

Apply for a Confirmation of Reporting the Loss of Passport from the Exit and Entry Administration of local Public Security Bureau.

Required Documents

Photo with blue background and Photo receipt.

Original or copy of identity certificate (passport, driver's license, student's card, etc.).

Confirmation of reporting the loss of passport.

Loss report form of expat's entry and exit documents.

Other supplementary documents required by the government.

Step 3

Apply for a new passport with the Confirmation of Reporting the Loss of Passport at the embassy or consulate of your country in China.

Step 4

Apply for a corresponding visa at the Exit and Entry Administration of local Public Security Bureau after getting your new passport.

It should be noted that the Confirmation of Reporting the Loss of Passport is only valid for 30 days, so you must obtain a new visa within 30 days, otherwise, you will be considered illegal residence!
