Living in any country as an expat can be difficult if you don’t have a support network, which is the leading cause of people leaving a foreign country much earlier than they expected to.
Star Yang, a Chinese man living in Nanjing, had many expat friends, and knew that most of them were deeply interested in learning about Chinese culture, language, history, politics and society.
But, before they could learn about those things, they had to learn how to survive in China.
Foreigners needed information and services that would simplify their life and help them understand the daily expectations of what life in China was like.
So, like any good friend would do, he embarked on the journey of solving expats’problems.
He started out by making a business plan and pitching it all over Nanjing.
Eventually, he earned the respect of a local seed investor and the Nanjing government, and received investment from both.
He immediately began building surveys, and reaching out to his expat friends, asking them to help him identify what expats really need and want to be happy in China.
From this, he developed a team that could conceptualize and carry out how to solve these needs.
Expats Express was born.
Almost a year and a half later, they have grown significantly:
- Star Yang, a Chinese man, is our CEO (Chief Executive Officer).
- Matthieu Blanchet, a Frenchman, is our CMO (Chief Marketing Officer).
- Sean Weisbrot, an American, is our CDO (Chief Business Development Officer).
- Davide Calì, an Italian man, is our CTO (Chief Technical Officer).
- Expat Express has 25 full-time employees, half of which are expats, and they`re like a small United Nations in that they represent Africa, Asia, Europe, and North/South America.
Expat Express have come together and improved significantly upon the concept, design, and layout of our app which is all to assist in easing expat’s struggles in China. And they’ve only just begun.
