In order to encourage visits, many countries and regions provide Visa-free Transit Policy for Stopover passengers. For example, the Hong Kong International Airport has already set up 7-day Visa-free Transit Policy for Stopover Passengers. 

Here comes the good news!

Since August 1st, 2016, the previous 72-hour Visa-free Transit through Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has been upgraded to 144-hour Visa-free Transit through the whole Guangdong Province! 



For stopover passengers coming from 51 specified countries with joint air, train, bus or steamship tickets to a third country, if they enter China via Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, or Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport,they can apply for 144-hour Visa-free Transit at the Inspection&Quarantine Center of the above-mentioned airports, and then they can stop over in Guangdong Province for a maximum of 144 hours without a transit visa. And when they are to leave China, they can departure via any port in the province,no matter by train, bus, steamship or air.            


According to the new policy,passengers from following 51 nationalities are available for the Visa-free Transit.Check out whether your nation is on the list:

(1) 6 Asian countries: South Korea, Japan,Singapore, Brunei, UAE, Qatar.  

(2) 24 European countries in the Schengen zone: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, the Republic of Iceland, Italy, Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.   

(3) 13 other European countries: Russia, Britain, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania. 

(4) 6 American countries: the USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile. 

(5) 2 Oceania countries: Australia, New Zealand.  


Q1:When does the 144-hour start to count?

A: From 00:00 of the next day after you enter China.  

For example, if you enter China via Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at 08:00, August 1,2016, then your visa-free time limit is from 00:00,August 2, 2016 to 23:59,August 7, 2016.



Q2: If I haven′t bought my air ticket to a third country after I entered China,can I apply for the 144-hour Visa-free Transit and then buy my ticket within the 144 hours

A:According to the policy,if you are to apply for the 144-hour Visa-free Transit,you must buy your air,train orsteamship ticket to a third country ( including Hong Kong, Macao,and Taiwan)before you enter China.So, if you haven′t bought your ticket when you enteredChina,then you’re not eligible for this policy.   



Q3: If I come to Guangzhou from a certain country(including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) ,and I have booked my air ticket to the same country I come from for a confirmed seat and a confirmed date within the 144h time limit,can I apply for the visa-free transit? 

A:For example:

1) If you come from Britain and return to the same country via Guangzhou,then you can't apply for this service.

2) If you come from Britain and go to Hong Kong via Guangzhou,then you are eligible for this policy.

3) If you are British,and you travelfrom Britain to Russia,then from Russia to Guangzhou,and return to Britainvia Guangzhou,you are also eligible.




Q4: What documents should I provide when applying for the 144-hour Visa-free Transit?

A: You should submit those following documents to the border police at Visa-free TransitInspection channel: 

1. Your validtravel document ( e.g. passport) ;

2. Your joint air,train or steamship ticket to a third country ( including Hong Kong, Macao andTaiwan) with a confirmed seat and a confirmed date within the 144 hours,and theDeparture & Arrival card should have been filled out.

3. An inquiry by the border police.If there does not exist any problem during the inspection,then you can get the right of 144 hours Visa-free transit.




Q5:If I have applied for the 144h visa-free transit but,for some reason, cannot leave China within the 144 hours, what should I do?

A:If by force majeure or for some other reasons,you need to stay in Guangdong Province for over 144 hours or stop over outside the allowed area,then you should apply for the needed visa at the Exit&Entry administration of a certain local public security bureau in Guangdong. How can you spend that 144 hours?



Guangdong is adynamic province where there are lots of cultural exchanges and internationaltrade activities,for example,the world-renowned China Import and ExportFair(Canton Fair),which attracts over 200,000 purchasers from all over the world ever year.

The biggest beneficiary of this visa-free policy will be those foreigners who come to Guangdong to participate in business activities.They can directly come here to attend trade fairs or engage in business negotiations without having to applyfor a visa.They may spend 5 days attending trade fairs and reaching some agreements and then just go to another country or return to their own country.Could this be more convenient?

There are a lot of tourist attractions here in Guangdong.For example, in Guangzhou,  there are Shishi Sacred HeartCathedral, Shameen, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Museum ofthe Western Han Dynasty Mausoleum of the Nanyue King,Canton Tower and ChimelongTourist Resort.Besides,there are other popularattractions such as the river drift in Tsing-yune,the hot spring in Huizhou,and beaches along the western side of Guangdong.
