Your marital status is an important factor ---- being married is preferred, compared with single. There is no option of "engaged" on the visa application forms of most countries except Australia, America and Canada etc. Therefore, it’s better to apply for a visa after getting married.

Besides, if you travel without your families, especially immediate family members such as your wife, children and parents, and they are in your home country, then you'll be considered less likely to migrate.

Visa Records

Having good visa records is a big advantage. If you have been to any one of those developed countries such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Schengen countries, then it'll be easier for you to get the visa of the others. 

If you have no visas of those countries, then the other countries' visas can also win you a better chance rather than a blank passport.

Refusal Records

Having no refusal records is very important, especially refusals by some Schengen countries. 

If you were ever refused by those countries, they would stamp a refusal mark on your passport. And other countries will definitely see the mark.

Job and Income

Applicants with stable jobs and incomes are more likely to get a visa. Especially those who have their own companies, because they have better financial ability to afford the trip.  

For foreign students in China, you’d better provide your parent's  bank statement, financial certificate, certificate of employment etc., which will help you with the visa application. 

Foreign students are not allowed to take part-time jobs in China, unless they can apply for the work-study program run by the college, which, however, is very difficult for them.   

Travel Plan

If you want to go to Canada, you can try to apply for a US visa first. Because the US Government and the Canada Government have close relationship, a US visa can facilitate your Canada visa application. 

And if you want to go to the US, you can go to an European country first, for a Schengen visa will make it much easier for you to get a US visa. 

Anyway, just do it step by step, from the easy ones to difficult ones, spend more time, and you can get to go to your target country.

Submit Application to the Nearest Consulate

Although visa applications can be submitted to any consulate in China, applications submitted to the right consular district are more valid. 

Otherwise, visa officers in another consular district will consider more factors.
