For longtime expats these activities are probably old news, but if you're new to the city you may be relieved to know that there is more to do here than drink, browse local markets and attend your local pub quiz.
Then again, who knows? There is bound to be at least one veteran expat in Guangzhou who is unaware how close wakeboarding is to the city...
Scroll down for our top seven activities in Guangzhou:

This sport-meets-hobby does hold a certain appeal... for daredevils! It involves heights, falling and potentially fear – but it's fun and, statistically speaking, safe. A bungee-jumping trip also allows you to take in the sights, sounds and smells at Baiyun Mountain – so consider it a double-whammy.
Cost:
RMB240 per jump
Address:
Maoliren Sports Centre,Baiyun Mountain, Baiyun District(广州市白云区白云山风景区内)

Get fast and furious in a small, four-wheeled car and unleash your inner pitiless driver. With no traffic lights and few rules, it's a chance to ruthlessly throw bananas and green shells at your opponents. No wait, that's Mario Kart. In any case, go-karting is always a solid way to unwind after a long day of business.
Cost:
RMB68 for 8 minutes
Address:
Guangzhou No. 9 Go-karting Club,Xiangfeng Hengjie, Gongye Dadao, Haizhu District(广州市海珠区工业大道翔凤横街)

There are few things more peaceful than gliding smoothly across hard, cold ice. There are also few things as entertaining as watching the less agile smashing into each other. If you can scrounge up some hockey sticks, this excursion could easily turn into a competitive, potentially violent hockey game (joking... sort of).
Cost:
RMB60 (Mon-Fri), RMB70 (Sat-Sun)
Address:
Zhengjia Ice Skating Rink,5/F, Grandview Mall, 228 Tianhe Lu, Tianhe District(广州市天河区天河路228号正佳广场5楼)

What on earth could possibly be better than shooting people with paint-filled pellets? Paintball's biggest advantage, at least when it comes to team-building activities, is that is genuinely hurts, making it the perfect activity for mending rifts and settling office scores.

RMB100 per person for a 15-minute game

Huayu Tuozhan Maofeng Mountain Base,Maofeng Mountain, Baiyun District(广州市白云区帽峰山内)

Though to some it's the shy little brother of paintball, laser tag is nevertheless a fun and fast way to expend stress while chasing people around with a large laser-blasting gun. Guangzhou's Galactica Laser Game runs games that last for 15 minutes, with a maximum player count of 18 individuals. Advance reservations are necessary and most (if not all) of the staff can't speak English, so prepare for gesturing.
