here comes the Ramadan. 


The devout muslims from all around the world are going to start a fast which would lasts for a month! During the 30-day fast, Muslims can′t eat or even drink from the Suhoor in the morning till the sunset, everyday.


Smoking, sexual life and dirty words are prohibited in Ramadan; Muslims are encouraged to show their mercy by sharing and helping the poor.

The meaning of Ramadan is more likely an opportunity for Muslims to practice self-control and purify themselves than a completion of religious obligation.


In each days of the Ramadan, muslims are living as following :

5:20 AM
Urumqi
Once the sun rises up, a day of fasting would begin. Therefore, though it was still dark outside, aunt Guli had already got up to prepare the Suhoor for her families.
Generally speaking, the suhoor is mainly light-food instead of greasy meat.
Especially in hot summer, melons and fruits are the best choices, matching with pilaf, steamed bread and dates to provide energy for the whole day.

Aunt Guli enjoyed the Suhoor with her families quietly and finished the fasting ritual, then they started the fast.


6:40 AM
Linxia 

Linxia is one of the areas which has the highest concentration of Muslims, the strongest islamic style and the most developed Islamic culture in China.

Mr.Wahid, wearing a small hat and white Muslim robe,was reading the Koran intently after the Suhoor. This was only his first pray in a day. A Devout Muslims would pray five times a day.  


7:30 AM 
Hami
In the morning market of Hami, Mr.Abdul was speeding up making Nangs (a kind of crusty pancake) since his customers was increasing.
Had the fasting ritual finished, Mr. Abdul, a devout Muslim, started his business as usual. His Nangs was very popular in the local area. 
“Although it's Ramadan, my business is as good as usual.” Mr.Abdul said.

Generally, Muslims would not buy foods in the daytime in Ramadan. But thanks to many Han customers in Hami, Mr.Abdul′s income didn′t decline obviously.Some customers, Muslim or non-Muslim would say “Salaam” to him for greeting. 

At that moment, Mr.Abdul felt happy as a Muslim.


11:00 AM 
Sinkiang
Mrs. Ayimu is a common Muslim woman. She didn't fast because of her illness. According to the Koran, children who are in the time of physical growth can exempt from fasting unless their insist so. So Ayimu made simple pilaf for children as lunch, which was regarded as a considerate gift from Allah. 

1:00 PM 
Urumqi
Mr.Yerlan opened a Muslim restaurant in Urumqi.

His employees are minorities but his customers cover widely.

Before the Ramadan, he was afraid that his employees would ask for leave and the customers would be decreased. He even wanted to close his restaurant during Ramadan.

To his surprise, what he worried about didn’t happen at all. The employees who was on fasting worked even more actively. Mr.Yerlan was deeply moved by their devotion and diligence.


3:00 PM 
Guangzhou
Like many devout Muslims, Mr. Muhammad was hurried to Xianxiansi mosque for today′s second pray.

He came out from the metro and took a hundreds-meter walk, then arrived at the mosque. Despite sweating profusely, he never stop his way to his faith.  


4:30 PM
Urumqi
Mr.Umire was making wonton to prepare the iftar dinner.
After the sunset, men will come back home from work and have dinner with them together, talking about something interesting of the daytime.

This was just a piece of a moment about an ordinary housewife′s life in the Ramadan, ordinary but real.


7:30 PM
Linxia 
A long carpet have been laid on the street in front of the mosque by kind Muslims, spreading delicious melons, fruits and Nangs. The Pilaf was in pots.

During the Ramadan, many people would like to do good things. They will provide convenience for everyone voluntarily according to their own ability. Some will give out Nangs for free, some may even will bring a trucks of cantaloupes to the mosque and share them with people.


8:30 PM
Guangzhou
The night is coming on. Finishing one day′s fast, Mr.Saeed and other Muslims were waiting in line to get the Iftar meals, which were donated mostly by kind Muslims. These hot meals included vegetable and chickens, bringing warmth to those hungry believers.

9:00 PM
Guangzhou
The Ramadan volunteers in Huaisheng Mosque were doing the cleaning.
Every Ramadan, muslims will set up a volunteer group to do everything they can do, to provide convenience for muslim people. All the work is aim to ensure the success of Ramadan.

11:30 PM
Sinkiang
Yima finished his last pray of a day in the mosque.
With a devout and pure heart, he finally finished all the fast work. He came back home, clean himself and then fell in sleep.  


Ramadan is not a simple sum of 

thirty-day′s fast. 



For Muslims, 

Ramadan is a chance to verify their faith, 

and the faith is their lifetime practice.
