Following the success of bike-sharing schemes in China, sleep-sharing has arrived.

Whether you need a 30-minute power nap in the middle of the day or a good night's sleep, now you can rent a sleep capsule at a mini-hotel.

We've had bikes, umbrellas, cars…and now we have beds.
Sleep-sharing era
The word ‘bed’ is now very archaic apparently, thanks to a new mini-hotel in Zhongguancun(中关村), Beijing where you can now rent state of the art ‘Sleep Capsules’. Known as the Silicon Valley of China, Zhongguancun recruits no longer have to work on a tired brain.

Officers told that “Sleep Capsules” have been gradually introduced in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu.
For now, there are 16 branches successively established in areas within Beijing such as Wangjing(望京), Beixinqiao(北新桥) and Xidan(西单), near some large office buildings. And recently, “Sleep Capsules” are about to be introduced in Shenzhen.

As soon as your eyelids become heavy you can sack off whatever it was you were meant to be doing and make your way to a ‘Sleep Capsule’ for however long you need it!
What's the price of the ‘Capsule’?
According to official reports, this exciting new phenomena costs:
Free for new users with the first half an hour.
CNY 6 per 30 minutes during off peak hours
CNY 10 per 30 minutes for peak hours(11:00-14:00)
* Only need to pay CNY 58 per day at most!
How to rent the ‘Capsule’?
And the most ‘China’ thing about this new venture…you simply scan a QR code to pay and rent the ‘Capsule’.

However, this is slightly more incredible, the fact you can rent a pod using nothing more than your phone.
Equipment Inside
You can Sleep on a bed with 2 meters in length and 1 meter in width, surrounded by soft blue light. Inside such small but functional capsule, you can also find a reading lamp, a decorative “spaceblue” lamp, a mirror lamp, a battery plug, a USB connection, and a button for inlet volume control.

According to reports from ECNS, the pods are equipped with Ultraviolet decontaminants, fresh bedding and an assortment of gizmos to make your ‘stay’ more enjoyable.

It makes it look like you’re sleeping aboard the Starship Enterprise! Beam me up Scotty!

No need to worry about your various devices running out of battery while you snooze to your hearts content, there are handy charging points.
Public health issues
Many people feel concerned about sanitation of the capsule, one of the responsible describes:
When people close the capsule door, the ultraviolet radiator inside the capsule will turn on automatically, to disinfect everywhere inside the capsule until the door is open again. In addition, there are cleaners cleaning the capsule during peak times.

Basically, this is for immensely tired citizens who need a little more help to make it through the day. It’s a brilliant idea and can't wait until it makes its way to other cities so we can check it out!
