After myriad talks, the Philippines’ Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) has reported that Filipino maids will be allowed to come and work in five Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen.

However, the fact that they will be getting paid 13,000RMB per month -- as much as an English Teacher -- is rubbing some of the locals the wrong way.
Why can domestic workers from the Philippines obtain such a high salary while we normal Chinese only earn little per month? Isn’t the country supposed to raise salaries for its citizens first and then import foreign workers? said one netizen.

Discussions regarding the ruling have been ongoing for a while, and DOLE announced that a Chinese delegation is slated to visit the Philippines in September for further talks.
The Philippine Star reports that improving bilateral relations between China and the Philippines is helping China make decisions in favor of the island nation. Moreover, this will help curb the problem of illegal Filipino maids.
Why Filipino Maid?
The Undersecretary of DOLE has noticed that China is screaming out for Filipino helpers because they need "domestic workers" with English proficiency and "International training".

In the field of household service, “Filipino Maid” sort of a well-known brand and provides services all over the world. Many females with higher education level are also willing to engage in this field.
A Filipino Maid In HK
Only Earns 4,000HKD!
Foreign labors have been allowable to work in Hongkong since 1970s to meet the demands of HK family for live-in nanny. It was estimated that around 335,000 foreign households worked in HK in 2015, among whom, the majority are Filipino Maids.

Compared with a salary up to 13,000RMB for a Filipino Maid in mainland China, the minimum salary for a Filipino Maid in HK is just 4,310HKD. Therefore, many Filipino Maids are more willing to work in Chinese mainland cities rather than Hongkong although they know they cannot get a legal working permit here currently .
But for now, Embassy of China in Philippines still remain an uncertain attitude towards Filipino Maids. If Filipino Maids can get Chinese work permit and are allowed to work here legally, will you hire them?
