In public square and open spaces in China, from one city to another, you can find members of the older generation square dancing.
In recent years, a novel form of public exercise has taken root among China’s older generation. Square dancing, as it’s known, is now a familiar sight in the parks and plazas of many cities.
Journalists collect each move on the square with their cameras.
Don’t belittle such “dancers of square”, actually, they are more professional, passionate and dedicated than you think.
The temperature is now close to 10 degrees below zero, and the man’s fingers and toes are nearly numb. But it doesn’t seem to bother the dancing ladies at all.
They dance almost everyday, regardless of the season.
Even the cold can’t stop them because once they start dancing, they soon warm up.
Now there are so many teaching resources online, they can find all the moves they need.
None of them have any dance experience really, they’re all self-taught from the Internet.
To begin with, they just imitate the instructor’s moves, before coming up with some of their own.
There seems to be a natural division of labor within each group of square dancers, with one person taking responsibility for purchasing, another accounting, and others in charge of outreach, keeping everybody busy.
The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games sparked a nationwide fitness craze. As people’s living standards have improved, a growing number have been able to spend more time and money on exercise.
Since people's basic needs have been met, they have started to pay more attention to their quality of life.
The development of the internet in China has also greatly influenced older people. They have used it to learn fresh new things.
