What is social insurance?

China's social insurance consists of five kinds of insurance, namely, endowment insurance, maternity insurance, employment injury insurance, unemployment insurance and medical insurance.

And you may have heard of the housing fund, its role is mainly personal savings and house purchase support, foreign employees can choose to buy according to personal needs, not mandatory purchase.

Can foreign employees buy social insurance by themselves?

If the employee's country has a mutual exemption agreement with China, then they can be exempted from paying part of the social insurance.

As long as there is a need to apply for a work and residence permit in China, foreigners are obligated to buy social insurance.

How to deal with social insurance after leaving China?

There are two options here.

1. Keep Social Insurance

If you plan to work in China again in the future, you can keep your social security and renew it at that time.

2. Terminate Social Insurance

You can terminate Social Insurance and withdraw your personal contributions.
