The Kite Runner
Khaled Hosseini
Introduction

Amir, a well-to-do Afghan boy, and Hassan, Amir’s servant, were close friends. Amir had a weak personality, so Hassan always sticked up for him. However, after a kite fighting tournament, something terrible happened to Hassan. Amir witnessed the tragedy but he was too scared to stand out and protect Hassan. Afterwards, Amir’s feelings of guilt prevented him from interacting with Hassan. So he created an excuse to force Hassan to leave. Five years later, the Soviet-Afghan War broke out. Amir and his father escaped to America.
Even having become a grown-up, Amir still could not forgive himself for betraying Hassan at that time. In order to make up for that transgression, Amir returned to his hometown over two decades later to do one last favor for his unfortunate friend, only to find out an astonishing fact, which got Amir in trouble again. What would Amir do next? Why not find the answer in the book ?

Review:

The book introduces the history of Islam in China in a systematic way. For example, it says that Islam had different names in China during different periods, and that Islam has great impacts on China’s social life, economy, culture and politics etc.

Review:

The novel depicts the miserable life of Afghan women who suffered from the old family system in Afghanistan. And it’s trying to tell us that no matter how hard life is, as long as we  believe in the power of human spirit, we till have a chance to live the life we want.
It’s worth mentioning is that A Thousand Splendid Suns is the second book written by the author of The Kite Runner and that it received even better reviews from the readership than the first work.

The Jade King
HuoDa
Introduction:

The hero of this novel is Han Ziqi, a Han Chinese Muslim who regards jade as important as his life. He learns jade carving from the owner of a jade store, later runs a store himself, but ends up in a business failure because of the changing times. Besides, the novel also tells love stories of its characters. Back then in China, a Hui Chinese Muslim is not allowed to date or marry a Han Chinese. ( Han and Hui are ethnic groups in China.)  Therefore, love between such two people is not accepted by Islam. For this reason, many people in this novel are deeply hurt.

Review:

this novel tells the life stories of three generations in a Chinese Muslim family and, meanwhile, the tragic love stories between Muslims and non-Muslims. From these stories we can see how Islamic culture and Chinese culture collide and blend with each other and how the author thinks about religions, ethnic groups and love.
