Acupuncture

From foreigners` point of view, being stabbed by plenty of needles may be the scene of horror movies. But to we Chinese, it`s just a traditional treatment.

Chinese believe that there are many ”secret points” on human body, which named “acupoint”, and each acupoint connects with different neural network.Stimulate those acupoints could affect related response of human body.

So Chinese people invented the Acupuncture, using metalic needles to stab the acupoints to stimulate the neutral networks; or using burnt herb to heat up the acupoints to cure illness.

As a matter of fact, quite a lot of foreigners have experienced Acupuncture, and some foreign doctors specially come to China to learn this traditional Chinese treatment.

Walk on the street, if you find there`re regular round or bar-type of red marks on the skin of Chinese people`s neck and back, that doesen`t mean they have suffered from violence. On the contrary, it`s just a kind of service named ”Cupping therapy” or “Gua sha”, which they paid for.

Cupping therapy is to light a fire inside a glass cup for one or two seconds, then put the cup onto patient`s back quickly. The cups would grip people`s skin and draw bad blood to the surface, Chinese people think it does help to rid the toxins out of human body.

No Paper In Public Toilet

If you suddenly want to use a toilet , don`t rush into the public toilet on the street, check whether you have tissue or not at first, because most of China's public toilets provide with no toilet paper!

As for the reason, we have to admit that if the toilet paper were well equipped, they may all disappear soon.

China developed too fast during the past decades, and its population is rather huge, China`s society needs time to train up people`s quality of treasuring public resources.

In fact, many shopping malls, office buildings in China are equipped with toilets paper nowadays, we believe this problem will be completely solved with the development of society.

05
Pay The Bill

In Chinese Restaurant, if you must have witnessed two Chinese persons suddently got into an argument and fought over a paper. Please be noticed that you don`t need to call the police, becaue they are just fighting for being the one to pay the bill. This may go on, back and forth, for a good few minutes, until someone "wins" and pays the bill.

The table manners of China are really complicated , “PAY THE BILL” is the most outstanding one. One pay the bill for everyone, or man pay the bill for woman. Chinese believe that “PAY THE BILL” stands for friendship, as well as a kind of manner.

In addition, if you pay the bill this time , your friend would be the one to do it next time, Chinese prefer to pay the bill instead of sharing it among friends, it`s a Chinese style relationship.

06
No-bathing-Month

After giving birth, Chinese women are supposed not to take bath or shower for one month, they shouldn't wash their hair or even access to cold water. That may sounds crazy, but it is kind of tradition indeed.

The ancient Chinese people believed that, women would be quite weak after giving birth, and it required a certain period of time to recuperate. In ancient times, there had no hair drier or bath heater, so women decided not to take bath to avoid of catching cold, gradually, the No-bathing-Month appeared.

Quite Many Chinese girls judge their potential mates on whether they possess house & car or not, a lot of young lovers break up finally because of house&car. That may sounds amazing for foreign girls, but what a pity , it is ordinary in China.

House Purchasing has become the most important event of Chinese people`s life.

However, China`s house price is getting higher and higher recent years, most young people could not afford one square meter even if they quit eating or drinking for about one year in big cities.

Young people have to rely on their old parents when they plan to get married, parents have become the main resource of funds. House Purchasing usually takes away all the savings of two generations.

08
Lucky Money

Lucky money, which is regarded as a China`s traditional manner, is a small and red envelope with moeny inside exactly. Lucky Money is standing for the best wishes.

In Chinese New Year, the elder would give the younger Lucky Money, while the married would give it to the unmarried. In other occasions, for example, wedding, childbirth, house moving, birthday, friends and relatives are likely to give out Lucky Money.

As for the amount of money inside the red envelope, it may ranges from ten RMB to thousands of RMB, which depends on the giver`s ability. Unrealistic competition would kill the meaning of Lucky Money.

09
Asking“Have you eaten yet?

Chinese people prefer to greet their friends by asking whether they have eaten meals or not, however it`s just kind of saying hello, they do not mean to buy you a meal. It`s as same as “how`s your day going”, which foreigners would like to say.

But real good friends would cook great dishes well at home and fill the goblets with wine, at last, they make a telephone call , and invite you to share the dinner. If you do bring a bunch of bananas with you , then you are already a beginner of Chinese manners.
