According to latest notice from Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, since January 1st in 2017, your cellphone will be possibly shut down if your phone number isn't in real-name authentication!
Once it is shut down, you can neither make or answer a call, nor send messages or surf the internet! You can see, this has been the most rigorous cellphone real-name authentication ever since 2013!
Recently, you may receive a message: “Please go for a phone number real-name authentication as soon as possible or your cellphone will be shut down!”
Some mobile operators in China told that those users whose phone number wasn't in real-name authentication had been shut down in batches gradually.
Both online and on-site (at business halls) authentication are accepted.
But as a foreigner lives in China and owns local phone number, how can you complete such authentication?
No matter your phone number belongs to China Mobile, China Unicom or China Telecom, all you need to do is to take your passport and SIM card to the business hall in person, then confirm your information and give your signature.
See, it is not so complicated actually!
In addition, the mobile operators reminded that the users should finish real-name authentication as soon as possible in case of their cellphone numbers being eliminated because of a long-time shut down.
