The annual annoying wet and warm weather known by locals as 'huinan tian'(回南天) is a typical meteorological phenomenon in South China every March and April.
The warm and wet wind from the South China Sea meets the cold air from the north, leading to warm and humid weather with rain and fog.

The humidity will make you feel sticky and it’s hard to shake from your bedsheets, clothing and even hair.

To help you combat humidity and keep your home dry, here are some useful tips.
1
Close Doors & Windows

Close doors and windows especially those facing south or southeast to keep the air out of the room. The humidity peaks in the morning and evening.
2
Use Newspaper

You can spread newspapers on the floor to prevent moisture after sweeping. Meanwhile, the smell of newspapers ink has the effect of a repellent.
3
Turn On Your Air Conditioner

Using your air conditioner's 'dehumidify' or heat function in combination with an electric fan will see better results.
4
Use Desiccants

Placing a bag of charcoal or quicklime in bathrooms or small rooms to reduce humidity. In drawers, wardrobes and shoe cabinets, use desiccant bags like DampRid or coarse salt to help fight against mildew.
5
Use Salt

Add some salt to warm water (40 degrees Celsius is ideal) when sweeping the floor, as the salt can enhance the evaporation of water to keep the floor dry.
6
Use Dehumidifiers

If your air conditioner has failed you and the humidity in your home has become unbearable, a powerful dehumidifier will come in handy.
7
Light Candles

Candles can prevent water condensing to reduce indoor dampness and also can help remove mildew from the room.
8
Head North For A Break

Get out of South China and head north for a break from this dam(n)p weather.
