According to the Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office, citizens and tourists are encouraged to ferret out weird translations in Guangzhou and submit them through WeChat's mini-programs.
Last year, the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou and gd.qq.com jointly developed a mini-program on WeChat called "Correct the English Signs in Guangzhou".
People who live or travel in Guangzhou can take pictures of bizarre translated signs and upload them to the platform through the mini-program with their suggestions attached.
Before August 30, participants can earn credit which can be exchanged for gifts like iPad minis, electric rice cookers, USB devices, or bluetooth earphones.
Mistranslations on traffic, safety, garbage collection, and toilet signs are all awaiting discovery. According to organizers, participants who find any errors in public signs are eligible to win gifts.
Here's how to participate:
Step 1: Scan the code of the mini-app "Correct the English Signs in Guangzhou".
Step 2: Click the little camera to take photos.
Step 3: After adding your current location, describe the spot briefly and write down your suggestion. Upload the picture and don't forget to leave your phone number.
Step 4: Credits will be deposited into your WeChat account if the submission is approved.
