Hong Kong, as one of the safe, wealthy and prosperous regions in the world, has been attracting many immigrants due to its unique advantages. To get a permanent HK ID is, therefore, a significant wish for these potential immigrants.

How to get an HK ID?





  • Overseas student: Study in Hong Kong

  • Family reunion: If your parent is a permanent resident of Hong Kong, you can apply for one-way residence in Hong Kong.

  • Couple reunion: If your parent is a permanent resident of Hong Kong, you can apply for a one-way residence in Hong Kong.



  • Employment relationship: With the qualifications of graduate students or above, and subject to the employment of Hong Kong who has the professional experience required by Hong Kong, you can apply for the Talents Program.



The Government promulgated the first Talent List of Hong Kong on August 28th. Aiming to attract quality people from around the world in a more effective and focused manner to support Hong Kong's development as a high value-added and diversified economy within its existing annual quota of 1,000. Like the famous pianist Langlang and actress Tangwei.





The 11 professions:


  1. Experienced waste treatment specialists/engineers;

  2. Experienced management professionals in asset management including but not limited to trust fund management;

  3. Experienced professionals in marine insurance;

  4. Actuaries;

  5. Experienced professionals in Fintech;

  6. Experienced data scientists and experienced cyber security specialists;

  7. Innovation and technology experts in, but not limited to, the following fields: (i) pharmaceutical and life science/biotechnology; (ii) data engineering (e.g. data mining/data analytics), artificial intelligence, robotics, distributed ledger technologies, biometric technologies and industrial/chemical engineering, etc.; and (iii) materials science/nanotechnology;

  8. Naval architects;

  9. Marine engineers and superintendents of ships;
    Creative industries professionals in: (i) music: recording engineers, mastering engineers, and cutting/pressing engineers for Vinyl LP; (ii) digital entertainment: game development experts (game designers, game programmers and game graphic designers) and game producers; and (iii) films: various roles in pre-production, production and post-production and winner of designated renowned international film festivals; 

  10. Dispute resolution professionals specializing in resolving international financial and investor-state disputes, and transactional lawyers with specialized knowledge of and experience in cross-border transactions from investing or host states.

  • Investment as Entrepreneurs



This entry arrangement does not apply to: 


Chinese residents of the Mainland of China (the Mainland); and nationals of Afghanistan, Cuba, Laos, Korea (Democratic People's Republic of), Nepal and Vietnam.



Start-up Businesses


An applicant who wishes to establish or join in a start-up business may also submit an application. The Immigration Department may consider the application favorably, if the start-up business concerned is supported by a government-backed programme with a rigorous vetting and selection process, and the applicant is the proprietor or partner of the start-up company or a key researcher of the relevant project.

How to get a permanent ID?





Chinese Citizens


1.A Chinese citizen born in Hong Kong before or after the establishment of the HKSAR.


2.A Chinese citizen who has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for a continuous period of not less than seven years before or after the establishment of the HKSAR.


3.A person of Chinese nationality born outside Hong Kong before or after the establishment of the HKSAR to a parent who, at the time of the birth of that person, was a Chinese citizen falling within category (1) or (2).


Non-Chinese Citizens


4.A person not of Chinese nationality who has entered Hong Kong with a valid travel document has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for a continuous period of not less than seven years and has taken Hong Kong as his/her place of permanent residence before or after the establishment of the HKSAR.


5.A person under 21 years of age born in Hong Kong to a parent who is a permanent resident of the HKSAR in category (4) before or after the establishment of the HKSAR if at the time of his/her birth or at any later time before he/she attains 21 years of age, one parent has the right of abode in Hong Kong.


6.A person other than those in categories(1) to (5), who, before the establishment of the HKSAR, had the right of abode in Hong Kong only.
