According to laws and regulations in China, foreigners are required to get the permanent residence permits if they want to stay in China permanently. However, the permanent residence permit has its validity periods (fives year or ten years). When the permanent residence permit is about to expire, the certificates holders should apply for renewal of the permanent residence permit within limited time period, actually one month prior to the expiration of the validity of the certificates.

As the permanent residence permit is an important certificate for foreigners living in China legally and permanently, it is necessary for foreigners to make sure that the permanent residence permit is valid. Therefore, it’s useful to know something about renewal and reissue of permanent residence permit.
Application Conditions
A foreigner who holds a valid permanent residence permit and has not lost his or her permanent residence status in China, can apply for replacement or reissue of the permit if he or she meets one of the following conditions:
(1)The validity of the permanent residence permit expires;
(2)The information in permanent residence permit changes;
(3)The permanent residence permit is damaged or lost.
Application Documents
When a foreigner apply for renewal or reissue of the permanent residence permit, the following documents are needed:
(1)Application Form for Foreigners to Renew or Reissue Permanent Residence Permit (in triplicate);
(2)Four recent photos of the applicant, bareheaded, full face and colored with blue background (specification: 48 X 33mm);
(3)A valid passport;
(4)Permanent residence permit of the applicant;
(5)Supporting materials before and after the change of relevant information (applicable for change of information);
(6)A Proof of Loss issued by the local public security authority or the loss statement written and signed by the applicant (applicable for permit loss);
(7)Other certificates as required by the public security authority.
Attention Points
A foreigner who meets the application conditions and plan to apply for replacement or reissue of the permanent residence permit should choose the appropriate time and apply for the permit at the prescribed time according to China’s regulation.
(1)A foreigner who holds a valid permanent residence permit may apply for replacement of the permit within one month before the validity expires.
(2)If the information in permanent residence permit changes, a foreigner may apply for replacement of the permit within one month after the changes.
(3)When the permanent residence permit is damaged or lost, a foreigner shall apply for replacement or reissue of the permit promptly.
