A company name that is the same as a name appearing in the index of company names kept by the Registrar of Companies ("the Registrar") will be rejected. A company name search may be conducted free of charge through the Cyber Search Centre or Company Search Mobile Service of Hong Kong Companies Registry or at the Public Search Centre on the 13th floor of the Queensway Government Offices.
A company name that may infringe the intellectual property rights ("IPR") of a third party should not be adopted. Infringement of the IPR of others may attract criminal or civil sanctions, either in Hong Kong or elsewhere. A search in the Trademark Register maintained by the Intellectual Property Department should also be conducted.

Choose a professional agency to deliver application.
According to the requirements of the Hong Kong Companies Registry, applicants are required to provide the relevant documents in electronic form or hard copy form. They can choose a professional agency to deliver the relevant documents and submit the application at the designated website or address.

Collect certificates in different forms.
If the application is approved, the Certificate of Incorporation and Business Registration Certificate will be issued in electronic form or hard copy form, depending on the mode of delivery of the applications. Certificates in electronic form or hard copy form have the same legal effect.
If the application is delivered in electronic form, the Electronic Certificates will normally be issued within 1 day.
If the application is delivered in hard copy form, the Certificates in hard copy form will normally be issued within 4 to 5 working days.

Complete registration and receive documents.
After the Hong Kong company is registered successfully, applicants will receive the relevant documents, including the Certificate of Incorporation, Business Registration Certificate, the Articles of Association in Hong Kong and Incorporation Form.

Hong Kong Companies Registry has adjusted counter service hours since Jan 25 for receiving documents delivered in hard copy and collection of certificates for company incorporation. The Public Search Centre will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Registry’s services on registration of documents and public search services provided electronically through the e-Registry, Cyber Search Centre and the website of the Registry for Trust and Company Service Providers will not be affected.

The waiting time for public services provided at the Registry's offices will be longer as the counter service hours will be shortened. The Registry will also take a longer time to process the documents submitted in hard copy form.
