
To reduce the difficulty of epidemic prevention and control in Shanghai, some international flights to Shanghai will enter China from 12 other domestic cities, the Civil Aviation Administration announced On March 15. And the measures will take effect from March 21 to May 1, 2022.

This adjustment will affect 22 routes of 5 airlines, with a total of 106 flights.

The latest outbreak of COVID-19 in Shanghai can be attributed to the viruses carried by imported cases. From 2021 to March 13, 2022, Shanghai has received a total of 4,345 imported positive cases.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport has also taken action on inbound and outbound domestic flights. It cancelled 817 inbound and outbound flights planed on March 13th, with a cancellation rate of 68%.

The pressure for Shanghai with inbound flights
As the Civil aviation Administration reported, Shanghai is the largest air entry port in China. Since 2020, Shanghai has taken in nearly 40% of inbound international flights, with nearly 50% of passengers, and nearly 70% of goods. What’s more, it has also accepted many inbound international flights for Beijing.
As required, every passenger entering China must undergo a 14-day quarantine after landing. Statistics shows that, about 200 flights from other countries and 60 flights from Hong Kong or Taiwan enter China every week. Half of those will go to Shanghai. As a result, almost 25,000 passengers check in Shanghai's hotels each week for quarantine.
