On the 4th local time, in order to curb inflation, the Bank of England announced to raise interest rates by 50 basis points, raising the benchmark interest rate from 1.25% to 1.75%, which is the largest increase since 1995.

在利率决议公布之前，英镑对美元汇率上涨约0.3%，但是在英国央行正式宣布加息50个基点并警告经济将长期衰退之后，英镑迅速回吐涨幅并且转跌，一度跌破1英镑兑换1.21美元，日内跌幅超过0.6%。对于英镑的未来走势，瑞银分析师预计，今年第四季度，英镑对美元汇率可能将降至1英镑兑换1.15美元，几乎和2020年疫情爆发时持平。

Before the announcement, the pound rose about 0.3% against the dollar, but after the Bank of England officially announced a 50 basis point interest rate hike and warned of a long-term recession, the pound quickly turned down, once falling below 1 pound to 1.21 dollar, down more than 0.6% on the day. Regarding the future trend of the pound, UBS analysts predict that the exchange rate of the pound against the US dollar may fall to 1:1.15 in the fourth quarter of this year, almost the same as when the epidemic broke out in 2020.

The Bank said the recent rise in natural gas prices had led to a marked deterioration in the economic outlook for Britain and many other European countries. It expects energy prices to rise by 75% in October this year compared to the same period last year, pushing UK inflation above 13% in the fourth quarter of this year, at a time when the UK economy may enter a recession from the fourth quarter. Such a recession is expected to last five quarters.

虽然英国央行方面的消息打击了市场情绪，但是因为最新出炉的企业财报提供了利好，受其提振，欧洲主要三大股市周四依然集体小幅收涨，其中英国伦敦股市涨幅最小，为0.03%，法国巴黎股市涨幅为0.64%，德国法兰克福股市涨幅为0.55%。

Although the news from the Bank hit the market expectation, boosted by the positive sign from the latest corporate earnings report, the three major European stock markets still saw a slight rise on Thursday, of which the London stock market in the United Kingdom rose the least, 0.03%, the French Paris stock market rose 0.64%, Germany's Frankfurt stock market rose 0.55%.
