The Panama Canal is suffering from the unprecedented drought and low water since 1950, resulting in a significant reduction in capacity. According to information, there are 129 ships in the panamax ship lock and 21 ships in the neopanamax ship lock, causing delays of 17 and 20 days respectively for ships from the Pacific to the Atlantic region, and 16 and 19 days respectively for ships on the return voyage.

为了应对此问题，巴拿马运河管理局（PCA）于7月下旬采取了节水措施，暂时减少了8月8日至8月21日期间巴拿马运河的订舱位，预订时段从每日23个减少至14个。意味着集装箱船想要通过巴拿马运河，必须减轻装载并支付更高的费用。进口商和零售商每个集装箱预计会额外增加1500美元的成本。

In response, the Panama Canal Authority (PCA) introduced water-saving measures in late July, temporarily reducing the booking slots for the Panama Canal between August 8 and August 21, from 23 to 14 per day. That means container ships that want to pass through the Panama Canal have to load less and pay higher fees. Importers and retailers can expect an additional cost of $1,500 per container.

These unloaded containers need to be transported by rail to Cologne, where they are reloaded and then shipped to Savannah, incurring high additional costs.

从2023年6月1日起，针对从东亚运输到北美的所有货物征收巴拿马运河附加费PCC，每箱500美元。

From June 1, a Panama Canal surcharge PCC of $500 per box will be imposed on all cargo shipped from East Asia to North America.
