Can a foreigner get married in China?
As laws differ in countries, the requirements for marriage registration are also different. In China, if one of the spouses is a foreigner, they can register their marriage directly in China; if both spouses are foreigners, they cannot register in China.
Qualification criteria for marriage registration
To register a marriage, the male must not be earlier than 22 years and 20 years old for female, both man and woman have no spouse, and they're not lineal relatives by blood, or collateral relatives by blood up to the third degree of kinship.
The documents required for marriage registration are very simple.
Chinese resident only needs to provide household register, ID card and a signed statement that the applicant has no spouse and that the applicant is not the other party's lineal relative by blood, or collateral relative by blood up to the third degree of kinship.
Foreigner needs to provide the passport or other valid international documents, and the certificate of no spouse.
This certificate can be obtained in two ways:
* No.1, issued by a notary office or competent authority in the country where you live, and authenticated by the embassy of China in that country or the country's embassy in China;
* No.2, issued by the embassy of your country in China.
After preparing these documents, you can go to the marriage registration office to go through the procedures:
Fill in the Statement on Application for Marriage Registration, and then read it;
Submit 3 recently taken two-inch half-length and bareheaded color group photos;
After reviewing the documents, the staff will issue the marriage certificate to you!
