Many foreigners think that to work in China, they only need to obtain a Chinese visa.
But, in addition to the work visa, they must apply for the Work Permit for Foreigners with the local labor department after arriving in China, and finally apply for the foreigner residence permit with the public security department.
Only after they have obtained these three certificates can they work in a company that is qualified to hire foreigners.
Some foreigners may be curious: I enter China with a valid visa, why do I need to apply for a permit to stay?
Unlike the business visa or family visa, work visa does not directly indicate the duration of stay in China but is marked specially with "000 days".
Reunion Visa (stay for 180 days)
“000 days” is a special note for certain long-term Chinese Visas, like Work Visa, Study Visa, etc. Holders are required to apply for a residence permit in the local Public Security Bureau within 30 days upon arrival. Their accurate duration of stay will be specified on the residence permit.
Foreigners who come to China for employment with a work visa will face fines and be deported if they fail to apply for a residence permit for work in time, or even cannot apply for a visa to China again in the future.
