Critical Rules to Avoid Trouble
1️⃣ Short-Term Visas ≠ Long-Term Stay
Tourist (L), Business (M), and other short-term visas cannot be directly converted to residence permits. To stay longer, apply for a residence permit at local public security authorities within 30 days of entry. Overstaying risks fines or entry bans.
2️⃣ Validity vs. Stay Duration
Validity period ("Enter Before" date): The latest date you can enter China (e.g., "enter by June 30, 2025").
Stay duration: Counted from the day after entry. Example:
If your visa expires on June 30 with a 30-day stay, entering on June 30 allows you to stay until July 30.
3️⃣ Overstaying = Serious Consequences
Even 1 day of overstay is illegal, leading to fines (RMB 500-10,000), entry restrictions, or permanent residence application rejection. Apply for extensions 7 days before expiry.
