China and foreign bilateral mutual exemption, more familiar is the Sino-foreign bilateral mutual visa exemption agreement, after all, tourism is more concerned, such as February 9, 2024, China and Singapore visa exemption; From March 1, China and Thailand will permanently exempt visas for each other's citizens. On April 10, 2024, the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia jointly signed an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports.

But bilateral mutual exemption has other aspects of the agreement, that is social insurance agreement. The main content of this policy is that China signed social insurance  agreements with a number of countries - the two countries exempted each other from paying relevant social insurance premiums. 

According to the website of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, China has signed social security agreements with Germany, South Korea, Denmark, Canada, Finland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Japan, Serbia, Luxembourg and other countries. Persons who have the nationality of a country with which China has concluded a social security agreement may, in accordance with the agreement, be exempted from the obligation to pay contributions for the prescribed insurance types within a specified period.



The insurance certificate issued under the bilateral social security agreement is an important document for cross-border laborers to participate in social insurance on assignment. With this document, cross-border laborers can be exempted from paying relevant social insurance premiums in the country where they work. Individuals who are already insured in China and working in the above countries can choose to apply for the certificate of insurance participation online or offline free of charge.
