Are there restrictions on foreign nationals working in China after turning 60? The answer is yes, there are certain limitations. However, foreign nationals over 60 still have multiple avenues to continue working in China.
Three categories of
foreign nationals coming to
China for employment
Foreign nationals over 60 years old cannot apply for B category working card based on bachelor's degree or above + 2 years’ working experiences, but they can apply for A category work permit according to high-end talents or a monthly salary up to six times of the social salary average. There is no age limit of A category work permit. High-end talents usually need to have outstanding contributions to China.
Category A
Foreign high-end talents (category A) refer to scientists, scientific and technological leaders, international entrepreneurs and special talents who meet the needs of China's economic and social development and meet the requirements of "high quality" and market demand, and in line with the point integral standard of high-end talent, or a monthly salary up to six times of the social salary average.
Category B
Foreign professional talents (category B) shall meet the requirements of the work directory and job requirements of foreign nationals coming to China, and meet the standards for foreign professional talents with points and credits, shall be less than 60 years old, have a bachelor's degree or above and two years or more relevant work experience.
Category C
Ordinary foreign personnel (category C) are those who meet the needs of the domestic Labour market and engage in temporary, seasonal, non-technical or service work in accordance with national policies.
In addition, foreign nationals who hold a Chinese permanent residence ID card can also continue to work in China after the age of 60.
