Brand’s Laira is an iconic winery, nestled in the heart of the famed “terra Rossa” strip of the Coonawarra region in South Australia. “Terra Rossa” is a unique soil in this region and best for planting Cabernet Sauvignon. Well-known Australian wine Critic, James Halliday gave a highly comment to this region as:

Brand’s Laira has a long heritage, with vineyards dating back to 1893 traditional wine making and traditional winemaking philosophy. Due to the best quality, we are rated as “Five Star Winery” by James Halliday in Australian Wine Companion 2017, which is the highest rate in the system.

Our story
It begins in 1893 when a retired sea captain, Captain Stentiford, purchased a prime parcel of land in Coonawarra’s terra rossa heartland and named it “Laira” after a square-rigged ship. Eric and His wife Nancy became custodians of the vineyard in 1950, in 1966,Eric produced his first wine, a Shiraz. Due to his great contribution, he was recognized in 1996 when he was named the first Patron of Coonawarra. In 2014 Australian biggest family own brand, Casella family acquired Brand’s Laira.

‘Classic Coonawarra’, Named in honour of founder Eric Brand. One of the original Blockers (landholders who sold their grapes to larger wineries in the 1950s and 60s). The range is an iconic wine and trophy collector. Blockers Cabernet has won 7 Gold Medals in the last 12 months.
Wine Style: Made in Classic Coonawarra style, powerful yet elegant. These wines have developed a name for their bold fruit flavour, trademark character and elegant style.
