NEW YORK — Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar joined along as Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue came alive with the sound of bagpipes, trumpets and lots of green Saturday during the 257th running of New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

On St Patrick's Day, it is customary to wear green clothing or green accessories. The first association of the colour green with Ireland is from an ancient mothology in 11th century. It was further associated with Ireland from the 1640s, when the green harp flag was used by the Irish Catholic Confederation.
