拒绝“挤牙膏”,新一代锐龙有话要说!

2017年,AMD(美国超微半导体公司)发布了基于初代ZEN架构的“锐龙”系列处理器,开启了重返桌面PC处理器市场的宏伟征程。在这之后迭代的ZEN2架构凭借着制程升级(12nm到7nm),15%的IPC(性能衡量指标之一)提升以及翻倍的缓存与浮点性能,进一步开拓了市场,但是ZEN2依然未能击败Intel公司的处理器在游戏领域的性能优势。然而,随着基于ZEN3架构的新一代“锐龙”处理器的发布,局势开始发生变化。

Ryzen, launched initially in 2017 and built on the original Zen architecture, was the beginning of an impressive turnaround and return to form for AMD in the desktop PC category. Zen 2 iterated further on that, going from a 12nm to 7nm process, and bringing a 15% increase in instructions per cycle (IPC) performance, twice the cache size, and twice the floating-point performance of the previous generation. It still lagged Intel at peak gaming performance.

AMD has beaten Intel’s performance advantage in desktop PCs with its new Ryzen 5000 series CPUs. That’s the verdict from a range of reviewers this week that have been testing AMD’s flagship $799 Ryzen 9 5950X with its 16 cores and 32 threads. Even the entry level Ryzen 5 5600X offers some impressive performance at just $299.


在发布会上,AMD表示,主流板卡厂商先前所生产的100多种基于500系处理器的主板,只需要通过一次简单的BIOS更新就可以兼容新一代处理器,新“锐龙”将会在11月5日全球供货,作为首发福利,所有在年底前购买的消费者可以获赠一份标准版的《孤岛惊魂6》。

AMD says its 500 series of motherboards—of which there are over 100 models, from all leading motherboard manufactures—will require only an easy BIOS update to be ready for the new 5000 series. The new processors should be available for purchase worldwide on Nov. 5th. To sweeten the pot, between Nov. 5th and the end of the year, buyers will be eligible for a free copy of Far Cry 6 Standard Edition, through AMD’s Ryzen Equipped to Win bundle program.

AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X steals the performance crown from Intel in gaming in most tests. Tom’s hardware has the 5950X beating Intel’s Core i9-10900K comfortably in an average of eight games at 1080p and 1440p. Some other games are closer, but AMD’s latest Zen 3 chips beat Intel’s equivalents for single-threaded performance too.

Anandtech saw similar gaming performance results, with the 5950X beating the i9-10900K in the majority of its gaming tests at a variety of resolutions. HotHardware also put the 5950X up against the i9-10900K in a variety of gaming benchmarks, and it came out on top in almost all of them. Digital Foundry found some games are friendlier to Intel processors in its own testing, but it’s still recommending the Ryzen 5000 series as the default choice for people building gaming rigs.

The single-core speeds that AMD is pushing here also make a big difference to content creation performance. The 5950X easily comes out on top in a variety of rendering and encoding tests over at Anandtech and Tom’s hardware.

Go one step down to the Ryzen 9 5900X, and it’s still impressive—on select titles, the 12 core, 24 thread processor is reportedly on average 7% faster in 1080p gaming than its competition, and an average of 26% faster in 1080p gaming than the analogous processor in the previous generation Ryzen series. The two other newly announced 5000 series processors, the Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X, feature 8 and 6 cores and 16 and 12 threads, respectively.

This CPU comes close to or even outperforms Intel’s flagship Core i9-10900K in a variety of games that Anandtech tested. If you’re looking at more of the budget side of PC builds, then this $299 chip looks like it will deliver impressive performance at incredible value.


3.

如虎添翼,新一代架构助力性能飞跃!

All reviewers are surprised at AMD’s impressive performance gains in recent years. Anandtech concluded that “it’s hard to believe the extent to which some of AMD’s performance numbers have grown in the last five years.” The site was also able to verify AMD’s claims of a 19 percent raw IPC gain, an incredible jump from Zen 2 chips.

All of these improvements are due in no small part to Zen 3, such as a unified 8-core complex with direct access to a 32MB L3 cache (double Zen 2’s L3 cache). According to AMD, this accelerated core and cache communication reduces latency—extremely important for gaming. Additionally, AMD says Zen 3 can deliver as much as 2.8 times more performance-per-watt than its competition.

近年来,“锐龙”的热度一直居高不下,ZEN3架构以及新一代处理器的发布,毫无疑问为“锐龙”火热的市场表现又添了一把火。如今,很多年轻一代的装机爱好者可能已经不记得AMD在世纪初凭借“速龙”处理器所缔造的市场神话,以及之后在Intel凭借“酷睿”系列霸占整个市场后AMD持续的低谷期。我们期待着两家公司接下来的表现,不管怎样,激烈的市场竞争最终总会使所有消费者获益。总之,PC玩家们,全体起立!

AMD has been riding its Zen/Ryzen hot hand for years now, and if the claims of Zen 3 and the 5000 series prove out, the stakes just got even higher. At this point, many younger DIY Players may not remember AMD’s original desktop PC processor heyday with the original Athlon line at the turn of the century, nor its subsequent slump when Intel Core became king. Now Intel appears to be the one playing desktop defense, as AMD raises the bar with every subsequent release—I look forward to its response to the 5000 series. Rivalry ultimately benefits everyone. It’s an exciting time to be a desktop PC gamer.
