In the near future, instead of going to your closet to choose something to throw on for your next video call, you might instead turn to your virtual wardrobe to pick out a 3D-rendered digital outfit to "wear."

At least, that's what a number of people in the fashion and tech space are banking on as more businesses look to the promise of digital fashion. And they're wagering those virtual outfits won't just be for your Zoom calls, but could eventually be worn all over the "metaverse" -- the concept of an interlinked extended reality world, across social media, and eventually, perhaps, viewed on your body in the real world through augmented reality (AR) glasses.

至少，很多时尚界和科技圈人士在投资这样的项目，很多企业也期待看到数字时尚的大好前景。同时，那些圈内人士还打赌这些虚拟服装不仅仅适用于Zoom视频通话，它还最终会越过社交媒体，在一个和现实世界的延伸互相连结的概念——元宇宙的全范围内通用。再往后，数字服装可能在现实生活中通过AR（增强现实）技术眼镜呈现在你的身上。

Some major fashion players have already begun capitalizing on the gaming market -- in 2019, Louis Vuitton designed skins for League of Legends, and Ralph Lauren have this year offered avatar accessories through the virtual world-building platform Roblox. NFTs -- or non-fungibletokens, which use blockchain technology to verify ownership of digital assets -- have allowed digital fashion to be monetized more broadly as well.

And without physical runway shows last year, fashion designers were forced to get creative in how they presented their clothes. American luxury label Hanifa put on a digital show that eschewed human models in favor of headless, floating figures wearing 3D-renders of new garments, while Chinese designers Xu Zhi, Andrea Jiapei Li and Roderic Wong presented collections during Shanghai Fashion week through an AR virtual showcase.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, robotics and other technological innovations, new high-tech sports are kicking off around the world. From robots taking the field to play soccer, to pilot-controlled drones racing one another, like humans, machines are proving to have their own competitive streak.
