不知从何开始，网络上兴起了一股新势力——“摆烂大军”，他们光明正大地用轻快的语气和无所谓的态度来应对他人催促奋斗的劝诫。这或许是当代年轻人对高强度竞争压力的反抗，又或许仅是一种无奈的调侃。
实际上，外国人也有独特的“摆烂”表达——“goblin mode ”（妖精模式）。

什么是“goblin mode”？
“妖精模式”=躺平？
不同于躺平的漫无目的和无所事事，妖精模式的摆烂生活依然丰富多彩，甚至可以说是放飞自我，肆意妄为。
想象一下以下的场景，是不是感觉又被内涵到了？
It's Saturday afternoon, and you have hundreds of errands to run. Instead, you make yourself a comforting bowl of instant noodles and devour them, splashing broth over your chin and bedsheets while your dog gazes over in disgust. You've just binged an entire series on Netflix and are preparing to start another; you feel a bit like a slob, but who cares?
这是一个星期六的下午，你还囤着几百件差事要做。然而，你并不急着打工，而是为自己悠闲地泡了一碗方便面，狼吞虎咽，汤汁四溅到下巴和床单上，而你的狗则向你投来厌恶的目光。你刚刚在奈飞上刷完了一整部电视剧，正准备开始追另一部；你感觉自己有点像个懒虫，但谁在乎呢？

如此定义“妖精模式”：
Goblin mode is about being messy, probably unshowered, and embracing the part of you that feels lazy and unmotivated. It’s about acting feral and slovenly and resisting (or ignoring) the pressure we all feel to be productive and presentable.
妖精模式就是乱七八糟（的生活），或许可以指不穿衣服，以此来拥抱你身心中感觉懒惰和没有动力的那部分，或许也可以指表现出野性和邋遢的一面，抵制（或忽视）高效生活和维持形象的压力，这种压力我们每个人都曾感同身受。

“goblin mode”一词从何而来？
这个短语于2009年首次出现在推特上，当时一位推特用户(@jenniferdujour)写道：“昨晚M处于极度活跃的妖精模式，状态好像吃了一袋糖衣糖后又灌了很多红牛。”
然而对于大多数人来说，第一次听到“goblin mode”一词，应该是在吃侃爷的瓜时。
2月15日，一位推特用户发布了一张经过修改的照片，标题是“茱莉娅·福克斯（Julia Fox）公开了她与坎耶·维斯特（Kanye West）的‘艰难’关系”，‘他不喜欢我进入妖精模式’”。
然而，在未经修改的标题中，“他不喜欢我进入妖精模式”的字眼原本是“在分手前”（before split annoucement），网友做出这样的修改也是为了讽刺嘲笑身为“替身”的茱莉娅不修边幅地摆烂才是二人分手的主要原因。
注：当时茱莉娅和侃爷正处于分手的风口浪尖，二人跨年后才开始交往，才一个月就光速分手，再加上朱莉娅和侃爷的前妻金·卡戴珊（Kim Kardashian）长得十分相似，很多网友唏嘘茱莉娅终究只是“菀菀类卿”。
这条推文被转发了数千次，促使新闻媒体在没有核实茱莉娅是否真的说过这句话的情况下，就撰写了关于妖精模式的解释——拥抱堕落的舒适感（embrace the comforts of depravity）。
大约在同一时期，“妖精模式”的搜索量急剧上升。最后，茱莉娅不得不澄清，她在Instagram上写道:“我从来没有使用过‘妖精模式’这个词。”

#goblinmode or #thatgirl ?
话题thatgirl（那个女孩）是TikTok上一个高度策划的审美流行词，指的是追求精致生活的女生。
There are nearly 3bn views on videos using #thatgirl, many of them show influencers organizing pristine refrigerators full of freshly cut vegetables, making organic breakfasts, and doing elaborate skincare routines. “You have to start romanticizing your life,” they tell us as they make green tea lattes at home.
带有#thatgirl话题的视频浏览量近30亿次，在其中的很多视频里，网红们打理着整洁的冰箱，冰箱里装满了新鲜切好的蔬菜，她们会做有机早餐，坚持精心护肤的习惯，并且一边在家里做着绿茶拿铁，一边说道：“你必须开始浪漫化你的生活。”
尽管这些女生展示出来她们高度精致，甚至不符合现实的完美生活日常，并且获得了极高的点击量，但是很多人对此并不买账，认为这是一种物化女性的无意义行为，她们宁愿选择迈入“妖精模式”，去过不修边幅，但是取悦自己的生活。
The trend “sets an unrealistic standard for girls to think that if they aren’t waking up early to exercise, their lives are not put together”, one blog indictment of “that girl” culture reads.
一篇博客对“那个女孩”文化的控诉道，这种趋势“为女孩们树立了一个不切实际的标准，让她们认为如果不早起锻炼，她们的生活就不完整”。
一条有9万+浏览量的评论讽刺说：
“My body is a garbage can with an expiration date and I got no time for healthy shit.”
“我的身体是一个有保质期的垃圾桶，我没有时间吃健康的东西。”
另一条有32万+浏览量的评论也不赞成这种虚假的精致生活：
“I love barely holding on to my sanity and making awful selfish choices and participating in unhealthy habits and coping mechanisms.”
“我不喜欢一直保持理智，我喜欢做出一些可怕的自私的选择，加入到不健康的习惯和应对机制中去。”

goblin mode只适用于女生？
可能是受到#thatgirl的影响，有网友认为，妖精模式通常只用于指代女性。
Men it seems can behave as disgustingly as they want towithout being labelled goblins, but this is not the case for women who dare to deviate from gendered expectations of looking polished and behaving in a ‘ladylike’ manner.
男人可以随心所欲地做出令人厌恶的行为而不用担心会被贴上“妖精”的标签。但对于那些敢于偏离性别要求、举止优雅、举止“淑女”的女人来说，情况就不同了。
由于大众对于女性“贤良淑德”的刻板印象，“大大咧咧”“不拘小节”这样的词对于男性而言不足为奇，甚至可能是赞美，但是若冠于女性之上，便会被认为与传统意义中的“好女孩”形象背道而驰。
摇滚男歌手玛丽莲·曼森（Marianna Manson）主张女性抛弃这些形式主义的标签，勇敢地展现自己真实的一面：
“Goblin mode has been adopted by the zeitgeist to justify the version of ourselves unfit for public consumption and for women especially, that version often involves time and money spent preening and the perpetual self-scrutiny of everything from our body language to the way our hair looks that comes with being primarily a decorative ornament.”
