什么是宝莱坞
Before mentioning anything else in this article, let’s first take a look at what the expression “Bollywood” means. To put it simply, it was created as a combination of 2 names – Bombay, a town that was once named Mumbai, and Hollywood.
在文章开始之前，我们先来看一下“宝莱坞”名称的含义。简单来说，它来源于两个名字的组合--孟买（英文旧称Bombay)和好莱坞。
Bollywood is the biggest movie industry when it comes to the number of films produced each year, as well as the number of tickets sold annually.

为何存在这么多歌舞场景
In fact, the film form of singing and dancing used in the movie is actually an image influenced by the local culture and traditions of India. We know that most Indians believe in Hinduism, and Shiva is very popular among Hinduism. In the eyes of Indians, dance was created by Shiva, and dance became the incarnation of Shiva. Therefore, people’s worship of Shiva is often reflected in dance.

When India first began to produce movies, they realised that their viewers longed for music and dance in them. This is because viewers were used to seeing music and dance forms in theatre performances. As a result of this, they expected there to be songs in Bollywood films too.
于是当印度刚开始制作电影时，他们意识到观众渴望电影中有音乐和舞蹈。因为观众习惯于在戏剧表演中看到歌舞。因此，他们预期宝莱坞电影中也会有歌曲。
Also has commercial factors. A movie is about ninety minutes long and only two hours long, but in India, it has a strange duration effect--many Indian movies are more than 3 hours long. In fact, the rise of Indian song and dance movies is to make the movie time long enough to make people who go to the movie feel enough.
同样也有商业上的因素。对我们来说，一部电影通常大约有九十分钟或者两个小时，但在印度，电影有一种奇怪的时长效应--很多印度电影会长达三个多小时。事实上，印度歌舞电影的兴起，就是为了让电影时间足够长，让去看电影的人感到足够。

歌舞在电影中的作用
First, dancing scenes can avoid heavily intimate/sexual scenes：the Indian culture totally frowns against all acts of indecency.
Bollywood movies use symbolic and seductive dance and music scene to replace unduly sex scenes. If there's a specific scene where the directors want to convey the love between two characters, a genre of love song that matches the storyline would be picked.
首先，歌舞场景可以用来避免过度的亲密或性场景:印度文化完全反对所有不雅行为。

It also can induce a sort of connection with the audience. Lively songs are used to lift the mood of the viewers while enticing them with the elegant dance moves. While on the other hand, sad songs are used to make the viewers sympathise with the character when needed.
歌舞也能引起与观众的某种联系。印度电影用活泼的歌曲来提升观众的情绪，同时用优雅的舞步吸引他们。另一方面，在需要的时候，悲伤的歌曲也被用来让观众对角色产生同情。

For India films, Songs can make and break a film, determining whether it will be a flop or a hit: "Few films without successful musical tracks, and even fewer without any songs and dances, succeed".
