The British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted of luring teenage girls to be sexually abused by the American millionaire Jeffrey Epstein on December 29. 

    陪审团裁定麦克斯韦尔共犯有以下五种罪行：性贩运未成年人、以开展非法性活动为目的运送未成年人以及三项相关的共谋罪。

She was found guilty of five federal charges: sex trafficking of a minor, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and three related counts of conspiracy.

The case against Maxwell relies mainly on the testimony of four women who say they were sexually abused by Epstein when they were under the age of 18 — and that Maxwell facilitated and sometimes participated in the abuse.

Ghislaine Maxwell was born in 1961, in France. She was a student at Oxford University. She worked for her father, the publishing tycoon Robert Maxwell, until his death in 1991 when she moved to the United States and became a close associate of Epstein.

The pair are reported to have split in the 1990s, although the socialite remained close to the pedophile.

Jeffrey Epstein was a New York-based financier, born in 1953, with high-profile ties to the world's ultra-wealthy and powerful. He was a registered sex offender as well.

With his net worth being touted in the billions, Epstein lived a jet setter's life and mingled with the world's elite, which included President Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Kevin Spacey, Alan Dershowitz, President Donald Trump and Prince Andrew.

Per the indictment, "over the course of many years, Jeffrey Epstein, the defendant, sexually exploited and abused dozens of minor girls at his homes in Manhattan, New York, and Palm Beach, Florida, among other locations."

    起诉书中还指出：“为了维持甚至增加受害者的“供应量”，爱泼斯坦还付钱给某些受害者，让他们招募更多的女孩，接受类似的侵犯。” 

His indictment also noted that "in order to maintain and increase his supply of victims, Epstein also paid certain of his victims to recruit additional girls to be similarly abused." 

    据报道，爱泼斯坦还曾将年轻女性，甚至是未成年少女，提供给他那些有权势的朋友，供他们“享用”，并在他在纽约、棕榈滩和美属维尔京群岛的房产中安装了巨大的监控系统，记录她们的性活动，以此进行敲诈勒索。

Epstein had reportedly provided underage girls and young women to his powerful friends and installed vast surveillance systems throughout his properties in New York, Palm Beach, and the U.S. Virgin Islands to record their sexual activities as a means of blackmail.

    同时，为了满足社会名流和自己性侵少女的需求，爱泼斯坦还购置了专门的私人飞机确保“服务”可以随时随地开展。这架专机后来也被称为“洛丽塔快线”（ “Lolita Express”）。

    然而审判前，爱泼斯坦在牢房中自杀。爱泼斯坦被捕后，麦克斯韦尔便逐渐消失在了公众视野中，直到她被指控参与犯罪过程。

Epstein was found suicide in his cell before the trial. Maxwell disappeared from view following Epstein's arrest before she was charged with assisting in the commission of a crime.

    然而，在爱泼斯坦2019年7月被捕，麦克斯韦尔2021年12月30日被定罪之后，有关这场罪恶的审判却仍未迎来终点。

Giuffre sued the 61-year-old Britain's Prince Andrew in August, saying she was coerced into sexual encounters with him in 2001 by Epstein and his longtime companion, Ghislaine Maxwell. Giuffre said she was sexually abused by Andrew at Maxwell's London home, at Epstein's New York mansion and his estate in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

     法官刘易斯·卡普兰于2022年1月12日拒绝了安德鲁辩护团队提出的驳回对安德鲁的诉讼的请求。目前案件仍在审理当中。

Judge Lewis A. Kaplan refused to dismiss the lawsuit against Andrew on January 12. The suit is still going ahead.

    1月13日，白金汉宫发表声明称：“约克公爵（安德鲁王子）将不再承担任何公共职责，并以普通公民的身份为此案出庭辩护，” 

“The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen,” the palace said on January 13.

    第二天，英国女王伊丽莎白二世同意收回安德鲁在各种慈善机构的享有的名誉领导身份。 截至目前，安德鲁王子的荣誉军衔也已经被剥夺。同时，他也不再在官方场合享有“王子殿下”的头衔。

Queen Elizabeth II had also agreed on January 14 that Andrew will give up his honorary leadership of various charities. Prince Andrew has been stripped of his honorary military roles and will also no longer use the title "his royal highness" in official settings.
