颠覆印象，你没听说过的“杀猫比赛”！

新西兰的罗瑟勒姆学校组织了一次筹款活动，作为活动的一环，组织者宣布在坎特伯雷地区年度打猎大赛中为14岁以下儿童设立一个新项目——猎杀野猫，最高奖金为250新西兰元（约合1064元人民币）。但是在动物权利组织的强烈反对下，这项有争议的新比赛取消了。

The competition began on April 15, and was scheduled to run until late June, but organizers called it off on Tuesday.The announcement drew public anger leading organizers to withdraw the event.

In a statement issued Wednesday, “We are incredibly disappointed in this reaction and would like to clarify that this competition is an independent community run event,” the statement read.

Organizers of the contest in Canterbury maintained that the junior hunting tournament to kill feral cats, using a firearm or other means, was about “protecting native birds and other vulnerable species”.

"Children, as well as adults, will not be able to tell the difference between a feral, stray or a frightened domesticated cat," a spokesperson for the Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or SPCA, said, per AFP.
