The internet immediately jumped in, mocking what many users viewed as (hopefully) preliminary graphics for a venture that Meta has spent at least $16 billion in the last year.

这一耗资160亿美元投资所创造的虚拟形象遭到网民的群嘲，网友吐槽道，其渲染效果、立体感、和人物比例都显得有些粗糙。甚至有网友直言，Horizon的元宇宙体验还没有1991年发布的天线宝宝游戏做的精致。

New York Times tech columnist Kevin Roose compared the graphics to "worse than a 2008 Wii game" on Twitter. Slate used the term "buttcheeks." Twitter was less kind: "eye-gougingly ugly" and "an international laughing stock" popping up.

Mark Zuckerberg, in response to a torrent of critical memes mocking the graphics of Meta's newest project, has heard his critics -- and changed his selfie.

遭受到网络平台上的负面舆论攻击，扎克伯格坐不住了，8月19日，他在自己的社交媒体账号上发布了新的图片。

Well, Zuckerberg has apparently seen the memes, because on Friday he announced there are major updates coming -- along with new avatar graphics. On Facebook and Instagram, Zuckerberg posted a photo of his more advanced-looking avatar. "I know the photo I posted earlier this week was pretty basic -- it was taken very quickly to celebrate a launch," Zuckerberg wrote in the caption, adding the graphics in Horizon "are capable of much more" and promising that it will be "improving very quickly."

新图中，扎克伯格的元宇宙形象更加立体生动，背景也显露出更多考究的细节。他承认了自己之前分享的照片“非常基础”，并保证Horizon的实际画质要好得多，即使是在头带显示器中依然能保证优秀的画质。此外，他还称元宇宙平台Horizon即将迎来重大更新。

Facebook is in decline.

自拍风波背后，Facebook正在走下坡路。

Meta (FB), Facebook's parent company, reported revenue of $28.8 billion for the three months ending in June, a 1% drop from the prior-year quarter and its first year-over-year revenue decline since going public in 2012.

The company's profit fell far more sharply. Net income during the quarter declined 36% year-over-year to nearly $6.7 billion, a huge reversal from the year prior when its profit doubled. Meta reported a 14% year-over-year decline in the average price per ad, a troubling sign as online ad demand weakens because of the recent economic downturn.

The number of monthly active users on the Facebook app also declined slightly from the first quarter of 2022, from 2.936 billion to 2.934 billion. On a conference call with analysts on Wednesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the decline was expected and attributed it "to internet blocks related to the war in Ukraine."

The social networking giant took an unmistakable step toward an overhaul, de-emphasizing Facebook’s name and rebranding itself as Meta. The change was accompanied by a new corporate logo designed like an infinity-shaped symbol that was slightly askew. Facebook and its other apps, such as Instagram and WhatsApp, will remain but under the Meta umbrella.

2021年底，Facebook改名Meta，迈向元宇宙方向发展的重要一步，Instagram和WhatsApp以及Facebook都将属于Meta旗下。扎克伯格许诺，将用5年把Meta打造成真正的元宇宙公司，在10年后覆盖10亿用户，带领人类步入元宇宙的时代。
