除了一年一度的妇女节，你知道还有一个“妇女月”吗？

Women's History Month is a month-long celebration observed in March of women's accomplishments, the significant personal and societal roles they have always played and how they inspire others today and throughout history.

“妇女历史月”，是每年 3 月举行的为期一个月的庆祝活动。活动目的是歌颂妇女的成就、尊重她们扮演的重要个人角色和社会角色，以及褒扬她们对当今人民和历史人物的激励。

在宣布今年的 3 月——“妇女历史月”来临的声明中，美国总统拜登表示，在此期间将“向那些与我们共建公平、公正社会的勇敢女性致敬”。

“妇女历史月”由美国发起，后来蔓延到世界各国，包括菲律宾、英国、加拿大等。值得一提的是，虽然“妇女历史月”的纪念活动通常是在 3 月，但加拿大却是在 10 月举行。

“妇女历史月”的诞生与国际妇女节密不可分。

1910 年 3 月 8 日，德国社会活动家克拉拉·蔡特金(Clara Zetkin)向哥本哈根国际职业妇女会议提议，认为应当设立一个国际节日，以致敬女性的成就。

经过参会各国同意后，国际妇女节于 1911 年正式得到欧洲的承认。当年 3 月 8 日，奥地利、瑞士、德国和丹麦庆祝了首个国际妇女节。但直到 1975 年联合国开始赞助国际妇女节后，该节日才在美国得到广泛庆祝。

而在 1978 年加利福尼亚州索诺玛县的一次庆祝活动中，“妇女历史月”开始萌芽——严格来说，它起初还是“妇女历史周”。当地妇女地位委员会的教育工作组规划了一周的庆祝活动，并将其与国际妇女节结合起来。

当地倡导者随后成立了全美妇女历史项目（National Women’s History Project）*，分享妇女取得的成就。许多民众受到该组织启发，开始了妇女节的庆祝活动。活动的时间从一周逐渐延展到一个月。到 1986 年，已有 14 个州宣布 3 月为“妇女历史月”。

1987 年，美国国会通过相关法案，将 3 月指定为“妇女历史月”。从此，历届美国总统都会在 3 月发表公告，向女性致敬。

Former President Barack Obama’s 2011 proclamation paid homage to the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, saying the holiday “is a chance to pay tribute to ordinary women throughout the world and is rooted in women's centuries-old struggle to participate in society on an equal footing with men. This day reminds us that, while enormous progress has been made, there is still work to be done before women achieve true parity.”

美国前总统奥巴马就曾在 2011 年的“妇女历史月”发表公告，向国际妇女节 100 周年致敬，称这个节日“是向世界各地的普通妇女致敬的机会，植根于女性为争取和男性在社会上的平等所做的、长达几个世纪的斗争。这一天也提醒我们，尽管平权运动已经取得了巨大进展，离女性实现真正的平等仍有不少事情要做。”

全美妇女历史联盟每年都会为“妇女历史月”设定一个主题。2024 年的主题则是“倡导公平、多元化和包容性的女性（Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion）”。

“The theme recognizes women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions,” a statement from the alliance on its choice read.

“许多妇女都明白：为了创造积极的未来，我们需要剔除生活和制度中的偏见和歧视。今年这一主题的设立，正是为了表彰全美各地的这些女性。”联盟就其选择发表的声明写道。

“Following decades of discrimination, we are proud to celebrate women who work for basic inclusion, equality and fairness.”
