Foundya has begun working with the Quantum Goddess Global community to help them provide a digital space that inspires more women to become trailblazers and follow their passions. So we are happy to debut the first episode of the Inspiring Women video series with Hangzhou’s own sensational Jing Jing Hong.
Jing Jing Hong is no stranger to taking risks. Having gone from a PR job in Shanghai to co-founder of the successful Hangzhou expat magazine MORE Hangzhou, her life moves like the irresistible jazz beats she has come to love.
As she aptly puts it, “When you sing, you’re telling a story.”

In some ways, her life is like jazz, especially looking back on the initial stages of MORE Hangzhou, officially launched in 2005. Jing Jing Hong recalls teaming up with co-founder Tim in 2003 based on their mutual experience with magazines and publications. First, they spent several months researching before they began publishing the first edition. Then, Jing Jing Hong was out knocking on doors one by one dragging a suitcase full of magazines through the December snow, to get the magazine’s first edition out to the public. This persistence and drive have ultimately led to the magazine and WeChat account that Jing Jing Hong aptly describes as “The Hangzhou Survival Guide.”
However, while MORE remains a staple of expat life in Hangzhou, fame and recognition are not what drive Jing Jing Hong to explore the unexplored. It's her passion for singing, and for Jazz music. Her journey to become a Jazz singer has taught her many things about herself, but no lesson has been more important than learning the ability to adapt and improvise.

“That’s what jazz is for: improvisation,” she said. “Rock and roll was something I loved when I was young. Jazz is so deep. It involves so many skills and knowledge and also life experience. I noticed how I sang jazz maybe five years ago and [how I sing] now, it’s so different, because in five years, I have experienced life, and you can tell.”
She performs every Monday night at JZ Club with the Hotwheels and works through her days at MORE Magazine, but she still always makes sure to spend quality time with her three-year-old son. Managing to handle all that together is truly inspirational.
