Dr. Murray James Morrison is a saxophonist, composer, and music educator. Originally from Canada, he has worked as an itinerant arranger, bandleader, clinician, composer, guest lecturer, and performing artist in cities around the world. Murray James is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Arts at NYU Shanghai, where he teaches jazz and popular music. Previously, he was Head of Saxophone at the Popular Music Academy of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, where he taught in Mandarin. He was also Head Composer for Rye Studios, a Chinese educational app developer. Murray James holds a Ph.D. in Music Performance from the Jazz Studies program of New York University. His teachers include a who’s who of contemporary jazz legends: Joe Lovano, Chris Potter, Stefon Harris, Kenny Werner, Jean-Michel Pilc, Ralph Bowen, and acclaimed jazz historian Dr. Lewis Porter. Murray James is presently recording music for Soul Pirate, a funk/fusion follow-up to his debut jazz album, Happy Every Day. Murray James lives in Shanghai, China with his wife Liu and daughter Melody.

Crowd favorite Jade Lee is back for a night of the highest quality jazz! Having studied under famed jazz singer, Tina May, in the UK, Jade has been blowing people away since returning to China. She is an amazing songstress and a constant crowd pleaser with her powerful yet delicate voice. She has a gorgeous range and delivery and it is easy to understand why she has been noted as one of the budding stars on the jazz scene in China.

The Heebie Jeebies is an ensemble that pays tribute to the earliest recorded jazz styles.  Hailingfrom the USA and China, the five musicians strive to authentically recreate the sounds and styles of the earliest recorded jazz bands. Playing compositions by jazz legends like Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Fletcher Henderson, and Sidney Bechet, the Heebie Jeebies create a fantastic 1920s sound for Gatsby-inspired swing dance events. In addition, they perform ragtime, traditional New Orleans styles, and even the first jazz compositions written in Shanghai during the 1920s. Fronted by long-time Shanghai jazz icon Alec Haavik (saxophone/vocals), and led by Michael Compton (pianist/arranger), the authentic sound of the quintet’s performances at  Shanghai’s premiere jazz venues or at private gatherings delights listeners and dancers alike. 

Hippies on the Road is a Hardbop band project started by young guitarist Junyi Liang and young saxophonist Wang Yu. The band's style is influenced by Blues, Soul and other roots music, while constantly absorbing new sounds from Postbop and New Age Jazz. The band's repertoire includes mainstream jazz tunes from Horace Silver, Paul Desmond, Cannonball Aldderley, Kenny Burrell, Fred Jackson, etc., with the band members' own interpretations, restoring the classics while continuing to innovate. They hope to give listeners a jazz communication through time and space.

Voision Xi

A jazz vocalist, lyricist, composer and music producer based in Shanghai, China. Mixed with  multiple influences from many genres of music, Voision Xi always digs deep into music on  the spirituality of jazz, stacking up her musical experience, developing her unique voice and  sound with clear articulation and the sincereness both on the stage or in the studio. 

With her own jazz band - ‘Little Happiness Group’, consisted of several outstanding local jazz  artists, their debut EP album ‘DEBUT’ combining newly arranged, traditional jazz standards  released in 2018 has been a natural filter for human ears with the atmospheric sounds of  flowing rivers, blowing winds, the pictures of stars in the cosmos and everything else in your  stretched imagination.  

After ‘DEBUT’, she has become one of the most popular featured artists due to her  distinctive voice and her special improvisation skills. More collab singles such as ‘Delay, She-fly’, ‘Sleepy Winter’, ’Sandclock’, ’Childhood’ and ‘Same Smile’ have reflected the potential  of her melody and lyrics in between jazz and other genres. Also, during a many-years live  performance journey with bands, for instance, Jazz and Poetry, Voision Xi & Spetsnaz and Little Happiness Group, she has presented her skills and  multiple talents in different music scenes around China.  

Besides of live performances and recordings, Voision Xi  has worked as an executive producer and planner for JZ  Music, which as a music organization known for its  annual international music festival - JZ Festival, a major  strength of Chinese jazz music over the last decade, as a  core member, she was also invited to several music  festivals in Indonesia and France. Planning, promoting  live shows and supervising music products, she’s  devoting an amount of time to supporting Chinese  contemporary jazz artists in music distribution, along with  everyday practicing and rehearsing for gigs and  recording sessions. 

Voision Xi has been upgrading her skills to a brand new  level not only as a singer/songwriter but also as a music  producer. ‘4 Loops in Her Way’, an elegant 4-track EP  which produced during pandemic with ambient-driven  sound materials and her unique, experimental  production techniques released in January. made a  brand new impression to the audience. Additionally,  she’s working on her new project - an original full length  jazz LP coming soon in 2021.  

A real jazz lover is stretching out the realness with her  purist voice, her heart and her soul.

As a professional jazz piano and keyboard artist, Zhu Mang has a wealth of performance experience. He lives in Shanghai and he is frequently active in the creation and performance of various musical styles. His talent has been recognized and praised by many jazz masters, and has the opportunity to share the stage with many famous international artists, such as the Swedish jazz trombone and singer Nils Landgren、the young American jazz Alto saxophonist Alex Han.

In 2017, Zhu Mang went to the Netherlands to study for a master's degree in jazz at the Prince Claus Conservatoire , which gave him a deeper understanding of jazz improvisation and creation, and be praised by Don Braden, Joris Teepe, Gene Jackson, Freddie Bryant, JD. Walter and other famous jazz masters. During this time, he also went to New York as a short-term visiting scholar for a half-year jazz study, with the opportunity to be guided by famous jazz pianists such as Kevin Hays, John Escreet, and Taylor Eigsti. In June 2019, he received a master's degree in jazz music from the Prince Claus Conservatoire in the Netherlands.

Jimi Hendrix (November 27, 1942 -  September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and guitarist who is widely regarded as the greatest guitarist in rock music. His guitar skills are entirely self-taught. As a left-hander, he developed a very special technique by turning the strings of his right guitar upside down and playing it with his left hand. His writing and playing has had a profound influence on blues guitar, rock and jazz.

Lawrence has become increasingly more involved with pop and cross over projects both as performer and arranger.  He is the music director for Taiwanese/American pop/jazz singer Shunza, and has recorded for Hong Kongmega-star Karen Mok and up-and-coming artists Shawn Wang and Marsha Yuan.  He has also performed with John Legend, Coco Li, Na Ying, JJ Lin, Li Rong Hao, Chen Chu Sheng.Lawrence Ku’s Jazz/Funk group “The RedGroove Project” first Studio Album “Flow” being nominated for the 25th GoldenMelody Awards in 2014 for “Best Album”, “Best Album Producer” and “BestComposer”. 2015, Lawrence Ku being nominated for the best Music Arranger in the 26th Golden Melody Awards again as Shunza’s Music Director and one of the Producer of Shunza’ s Album.  Lawrence Ku now is the first ethnic Chinese jazz guitarist holding the solo concert in China’s first board-theaterin all time!Lawrence Ku’s Modern Jazz Music Project“The Lawrence Ku Trio” first live recording album “Pictures” released March2015 in China, and is the winner of “Best Instrumental Album” of the 16th China Music Media Awards. 

Key's Funkytown is a young team with musicians who are crazy into black folk, Soul, Gospel and R.N.B.

The music of Key's Funkytown is very much like the classic black music of the 1960s and 1980s, not imitation, but more like the inheritance in the soul, and they also perform the funk and soul classic music from motown to Prince era. The performance of Key's Funkytown is an adventure of rhythm and carnival of senses .

Weaving music with the most simple and classic groove, finding the lost passion, power and color in the music of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Prince, and continuing to write their own chapters, is a worthy obsession.
