The name of the wine, 'Dos Dedos de Frente' (meaning 'two fingers of forehead'), is taken from a Spanish expression that means someone of low intelligence. It comes from the days when people believed that a large forehead was a sign of great intellect and if you wanted to call someone a fool, you would say that they didn't even have 'two fingers of forehead' ('no tiene dos dedos de frente'). In this case this wine refers to a little piece of intelligence, as Norrel himself demonstrates on the label image he can easily fit two fingers on his forehead.

这款酒的名字 "Dos Dedos de Frente"（意为 "两根手指的额头"）取自西班牙的一句话，意思是智力低下的人。它来自于当时人们认为额头大是智力高的标志，如果你想说某人是傻瓜，你会说他连 "两根手指的额头 "都没有（"没有两根手指的额头"）。在这种情况下，这款酒指的是一点智慧，正如诺雷尔本人在酒标图片上所展示的那样，他可以轻松地在额头上装下两根手指。

Spectacular and intense dark fruit on the nose! Blackcurrant, blackberries, cassis, violets, smoke and minerality. On the palate, it is rich and deep but not massive. It has mouth-watering acidity, ripe tannins, and elegant oak integration. I find this vintage more balanced than previous ones. The wine has precise fruit expression. 2018 has been the greatest year for this wine. 18/20, FC, Jan 2021

It's a Syrah with a splash of Viognier (5%), a fairly common recipe in Cote-Rotie, and the aromas are astonishingly beautiful. It's a wine that you will enjoy swirling for minutes before you take a sip, because there is so much going on. It's like a maypole of intertwining scents and flavours comprising tangy cassis, black cherry, orange rind, cinnamon, violets, white pepper, cigar box and oak chips. The palate is deep and dark, with a texture that evokes a young Saint Emilion, with youthful tannins that grip on the finish, suggesting that it still has a few years to fully resolve and unfurl. A truly memorable experience from a brilliant winemaker!

It turns out that Norrel Robertson has quite a lot of forehead. Not only has he an MA Honours degree in Politics and International Relations, but he is also one of only four Masters of Wine currently living and working in Spain. He goes by the name of 'El Escoces Volante' ('The Flying Scotsman') and although he has made wine in Murcia, Andalucia and Galicia, he has made a real name for himself in Aragon, where he makes high altitude wines from Rhone varieties and this was the best of some great wines that we tasted with him.
