导读:Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future, let’s honour them…

WHO WE ARE?

DOUCÉA, a youth skincare brand dedicated to little ones and teens, co-created with them, is very happy to celebrate Children’s Day.

For this special day, what a better way than sharing the work of photographs, capturing the emotions of children met all over the world!

Many thanks to

all those AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHERS!

WHAT IS CHILDREN DAY?

Children's Day is a commemorative date celebrated annually in honour of children, whose date of observance varies by country.

In 1925, International Children's Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare. Since then, it is celebrated on various dates in many countries

Children's Day is celebrated by the UN on November 20. On that date, UNICEF promotes and develops children’s rights.

In 1956, China State Council made June 1st Children's Day a One-Day Holiday.

Schools usually hold activities such as children's performances, camping trips, or free movies on Children's Day or the day before to allow students to have fun.

Children of civil servants might also receive small gifts from the government until they are fourteen, and Civil servants who have children sometimes have a half-day holiday on 1 June to spend more time with their children.

In order to celebrate that day, and remind us that lots of kids are still not privileged …we asked 13 reputable photographers to provide one of their picture with kid(s) and explain us the emotion or story …..

Innocence

“If the eyes are the reflection of the soul, children’s ones are synonymous with innocence. In 2014, in the middle of Burkina Faso, it was not my camera that caught the lively eyes of this child hanging on the back of his mother, but it was he who magnetized my lens.”

Lost and Found in Fiji

“I have a habit during travelling is to capture the smiling of the kids.

This one was in 2019 June, when I was in Fiji with my husband for cursing.

In one of those eat, drink, beaching days. I decided to make a visit to the local school, and I was surprise to find that the Fiji kids are so energetic and full of positiveness, they don`t like those sad kids in Cambodia will ask you for money with cynical expression. Fiji kids are pure and happy, like this one in the picture, she was enjoying so much in the bubble game, chasing the bubble with us (some strangers from somewhere maybe they never heard about)...

Sometimes happiness can be so simple to found, particular in kids, and every mother all have the access to that, feel the innocence, love and meanings of life”.

The ice-cream: sharing is caring…

Travelling with no camera to me is probably equivalent to running without my favourite sneakers, so it’s always with me!

Cambodia... a few years ago. We hired a tuk-tuk to go to Tonle lake, close to Siem Reap, to see the sunset. It was shaking, windy and dusty while we were crossing a few villages before reaching the little boats. We could see from far away a few people living in the poor areas and it was like we could imagine their lifestyle...a lot of life, actually...I started to spot a group of kids, the speed didn’t allow me to take my time to adjust so I said to myself: " You have one only chance, you press that shutter and those kids will have for sure something to show."

We arrived and marvelled at that amazing sunset and I had still in mind those kids, it was only the day after when I have transferred the pictures to my iPhone, that I discovered the scene that my lens has captured, I called this picture “the ice cream: sharing is caring”

Playground crisis

Childhood to me is about discovering the many emotions that life brings us. The younger we are, the more intense the feelings we feel, because they are newer, less controllable, and overtake all of our attention when we experience them. We feel joy, fear, frustration, hate, bliss, in magnitudes that we rarely find again in our adult life.

We struggle to take a step back, and instead lean in completely to that feeling and whatever it instinctively triggers. The emotional response of this young Burmese girl in the playground represents how we all feel inside when we've been fooled, or cheated in some way. However, as adults, we rarely feel it as suddenly and strongly, or manifest such raw anger, that is common in school dramas all over the world!

Boy in Negombo

I met this little boy in a fishing village in Negombo, Sri Lanka.  He caught my attention as he stood alone by this boat waiting for his father who had just left on another boat with a few other men out to sea.

This boy’s eyes expressed many different emotions all at the same time - LONGING as he looked towards the sea anticipating his father’s safe return, CAREFREE as he ran around this familiar beach of his village, ALERT as I (the stranger) approached him, INQUISITIVE as to why this stranger was on his beach.

To me everyday should be a WORLD CHILDREN DAY.  This boy’s eyes are a reminder for us adults to make it a priority to fill each child’s heart with compassion, courage and a sense of security, as well as respecting them for who they are.  As a parent of 2, I am far from perfect. Everyday I try to be a better parent than the day before.

HAPPY WORLD CHILDREN DAY.

Simple happiness

“In Fujian, in the remote Yongding area where you can find those earthen communal houses called Tulou, life looks like it has been frozen in 1900 or earlier! The people live in big residential buildings and share facilities in the center area. This kid unlike many of those we see in Shanghai everyday was not hooked on his phone playing games or watching tiktok but having the simple joy of spying on a lazy cat sun bathing and preparing his next trick to surprise him.

There is a great inner pleasure to observe and see daily unfolding without disturbing it. I was glad to witness this simple life scene in the quietness of this big house”.

Left behind children

Xiaozhi is a left behind child in China. It was very cold that day, and he didn't fear the camera. In the bitter cold wind, I took this picture. His parents all work in the city, leaving him and his grandmother to live together. Although the life in the countryside is not superior to that in the city, it also cultivates Xiaozhi's strong and optimistic character. When he grows up, Xiaozhi is very confident and sensible, just like the red color in this picture, which gives people strength and hope.

Look

“In Africa I drown in the looks of children...

What is deeper than the look of an African child?

I have always been fascinated by these big eyes which allow a large number of feelings to filter... I often see curiosity, astonishment, a little fear also for the little ones, a little challenge for the most old...

These big eyes express so much for those who know how to take the time to look at them and communicate with their gaze for long seconds without speaking. The ultimate reward will be a photo that we will take home and that we will often look at even long afterwards as the most beautiful memory that we could bring back...

Perfection

“This photo was taken when I was in Beijing in 2007, a special time because of the Beijing Olympic Games. I was doing a photo series for a French Newspaper about young gymnasts at a local training center. As I toured and took pictures around, this little girl caught my attention and stood out from the others. Unlike other girls, who tried to show me their best movements and tricks, this girl focused on her movements and repeated them continuously until she perfected it. It was her spirit and mentality at her age that shocked me. She showed me that she was ready for her Olympic Game.”

I love beauty !

During one of my trip in a rural village, I noticed this lovely little girl …

I offered to her a small soap with apple fragrance.

She, first of all, smelled it and immediately applied on her face …Gently and softly …

Taking care of our children is the most important: transmitting our values and teaching them to cherish what they have.

Baraka Children!

Baraka Children's Home is situated just outside of Mombasa, Kenya; it cares and supports HIV/AIDS orphans by providing the children with food, shelter, medical care, clothing, education and both parental and spiritual guidance.

In 2011, I visited Kenya and met the Baraka children; further that year, I presented a series of photographs in an exhibition first in Biella, Italy, with the patronage of the local government and then within the context of the Alpàa Festival in Varallo, Italy. I wanted to document the life of the children and create awareness for their cause.

She was sad!

The girl came to me while I ask for the direction for the restroom in an underground market, Shanghai. She friendly expressed the complication of the direction of the market and reached out a hand to guide me. I was surprised by why and how she was so familiar to the directions of the market while I was halfway to the spot. Out of my expectation, she was waiting for me at the corner after I came out of the restroom. She told me her mother works in the market so that she spends a lot of time here after school.

I don’t know how she manages the boredom of the market instead of playing time with peers, but I do know the girl has a beautiful heart that willing to help anyone needed. Her smile, passionate, and hospitality reminds me how an innocent child being thoughtful to the parents work. I know there are many other children like her in a different corner. People in the country shows the flexibility to live along with the environment, even sometimes it is a tough one.
