On August 12th, Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute (SMERI) and Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) held a ceremony to sign contracts of 2+1+1 Italian Moby Ro-paxes fin stabilizers.

SMERI will equip the Ro-pax with a pair fin stabilizer with each fin area 16.5㎡. Under the design draft condition, when the wave slope is 4°, and the ship sails at 23.5 knots, it can reduce the ship's roll by 80% or more.
SMERI has made long-term efforts in the development of large-scale fin stabilizer, carried out the research and development and breaking through a number of key technologies continuously in this field. The large-scale fin stabilizer has reached the international advanced level. For example, it has been successfully developed:
1)Flapped fin with fish-tail, the lift coefficient is bigger than flapped fin or fish-tail fin only.
2)Large scale fin stabilizer retracting mechanism with high reliability.
3)Fin box cover to reduce the fin boxopen resistance when fin is not used.
4)Comprehensive application of a variety of optimization design technology, the weight of the equipment is lower than the same specificationfin stabilizer of any other suppliers in the world.
SMERI has devoted herself to industrialization strategy of fin stabilizer, which integrates R&D, design, manufacturing, sales and service, and has occupied 80% of Chinese market in the past 10 years.

Fin stabilizer is a complex underwater equipment, especially the large scale fin. SMERI is silently cultivate the international market in this field, and has gradually had a positive impact on foreign ship owners and ship designers. Thanks to the trust of Guangzhou Shipyard International, SMERI is making great strides to enter international market and the ranks of the international mainstream suppliers.
