Ladies can now say goodbye to unsustainable hosiery.
At Chinaplas 2014, BASF will demonstrate anti-run hosiery made with Elastollan® Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomers (TPU). The melt spun spandex solution utilizes a solvent-free fiber production process that meets the requirements of Oeko-Tex® Standard 100.
Spandex is an elastic fiber with excellent stretchability. It is mostly used in garments that require a high degree of comfort and fit such as sportswear, stockings, underwear and jackets. Spandex fiber is divided into two categories: dry spun spandex and melt spun spandex. Meltspun spandex is considered to be a more environmentally-friendly spandex fiber that provides superior comfort. It utilizes a solvent-free fiber production process and it is not harmful to wearers’ health. The new-generation green fiber is also extensively used in the textile, packaging and medical sectors.

Oeko-Tex®Standard 100 is a global testing and certification system for screening harmful and restricted substances in consumer textile products. The results of the inspection according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 have shown that the Elastollan®melt spandex fiber meets class 1 (baby articles) of the present human-ecological requirement standards.
