The policeman suspected of gunning down two men in central China’s Hunan province has been arrested after almost two days on the run.

Policeman Chen Jianxiang, 46, was arrested on Sunday evening in Ketou Village in Xinhua County, about 10 kilometres from Shangmai Village where Friday night's fatal shooting took place, according to a Weibo microblog post from Hunan provincial police.

Chen, a policeman, is the main suspect in the shooting which left two people dead. The victims are a 36-year-old man surnamed Zou who worked at the local Education Bureau, and a 58-year-old man surnamed Duan who had been laid-off from his job, local authorities wrote in a Weibo post on Saturday night.

Chen had a disagreement with both Zou and Duan, authorities said.

Chen fled after the incident, prompting a manhunt. Police also offered an award of up to 100,000 yuan ($15,204) for anyone who could directly help with his capture.

Hunan provincial authorities are working with local authorities to investigate.
