This year’s online shopping spree was bigger than ever, with sales topping 10 billion yuan in just over two minutes

The bargains have ended, the shopaholics are exhausted, and China’s annual shopping extravaganza Singles’ Day has set new records.

E-commerce giant Alibaba’s online shopping site Tmall beat last year’s sales record, raking in 213.5 billion yuan ($30.8 billion) in purchases in 24 hours. The figure makes the spending bonanza — now in its 10th year — more than twice the size of last year’s Cyber Monday and Black Friday combined.

Alibaba’s executive vice chairman, Joe Tsai, put the record sales down to the rise of China’s middle class. “That trend is not going to stop, trade war or no trade war,” he said in a statement.

From the most popular products to the speed of sales, Sixth Tone takes a look at how this year’s Singles’ Day panned out.
