At least one person has died, and forecasts indicate continued rainfall this week
Authorities in Guangxi issued a “severe meteorological disaster (rainstorm) emergency response” on Sunday after torrential rains caused widespread flooding across the region in southern China.
As of Saturday night, one person had died and over 323,000 had been affected by the extreme weather, according to the Guangxi government. Road collapses, power outages, and communications blackouts have also been reported in the region.
Several cities in the northern and central parts of Guangxi have seen steady, strong downpours since May 31, resulting in the worst flooding to hit the region in the past five to 10 years.
Forecasts show that further heavy rainfall is expected in the region over the next few days.
This is a developing story; it will be updated as more information becomes available.
