Douyin, the Chinese version of short-video app TikTok, boasts over 400 million daily active users, according to its 2019 data report.

The report, published Monday, also highlighted Douyin’s ongoing efforts to introduce more content related to education, art, and culture. In March, Douyin partnered with multiple national-level academic institutions to launch the Dou Knowledge Plan, aimed at promoting educational content for the platform. Around 15 million education-themed short videos were posted on Douyin last year, according to the report, and the app claims to have already become China’s largest online platform for knowledge, art, and “non-material cultural heritage.”

Douyin, which was launched by Chinese tech giant ByteDance in September 2016, is currently the most popular short-video platform in China, with 486 million monthly active users as of June 2019, according to Chinese market research firm QuestMobile. Its overseas brand TikTok has taken the world by storm and is currently one of the most popular social media apps globally, with around 625 million monthly active users.

Douyin’s top domestic competitor, Kuaishou (known as Kwai in overseas markets), has 341 million monthly active users in China, according to QuestMobile.
