Write for Sixth Tone!

Sixth Tone is looking for freelance contributors to help expand our coverage of the latest business, cultural, and social trends in today's China.

We work with freelancers on a huge variety of stories — from in-depth investigations on hidden fraud scandals, to innovative multimedia projects, and reported features on trending youth cultures, films, or documentaries. Our only requirements are that your piece is well-written, solidly reported, will appeal to a wide audience, and sheds light on a wider issue in contemporary Chinese society.

If you have an idea for a story, please send a pitch along with a brief self-introduction and some samples of your previous work to contribute@sixthtone.com. Your pitch should be brief, written in English, and include the following: an outline of the topic, an explanation of why the story is relevant to Sixth Tone’s audience, and a list of the kind of sources you plan to contact while reporting the story.
