By now, you’ve figured out how to browse and search for products on baopals. You’ve found that Levitating Death Star Speaker, French Press coffee maker, or that badminton set you’ve been wanting for your park picnics.
Now you want to know if these products – and their sellers – are right for you.
Fortunately, vetting items and sellers on baopals is as easy as saying “ni hao”!
When viewing a product, there’s a variety of information for you to take in. Let’s look at this pancake pan for an example:

1. Product Name. Unless we have updated it ourselves, the product name is auto-translated from Chinese, so you may notice some odd phrasing here. If anything seems unclear, don’t hesitate to ask us for clarification.
2. Pricing. Price may depend on which product option you choose, and you will see the price update when you make your selection. Keep an eye out for the shipping fee as well - many products contain no shipping charge, but not all.
3. Product Options. Sometimes product options will be pictures, sometimes text, and sometimes a combination of the two. On rare occasions, a seller may create a message or advertisement as a product option - if you see this, please ignore it and choose from the regular options. Text product options don’t always translate perfectly, and if you have a question, we’ll be happy to answer.
4. baopals Score. Our score is an aggregate of Taobao/Tmall ratings on product quality, shipping speed, and seller service. It is automatically adjusted to account for rating inflation on Taobao and Tmall. Generally, we suggest aiming for products with a baopals score of 8 or above.
5. Taobao/Tmall Ratings. These scores are automatically updated based on Taobao and Tmall customer ratings. These ratings seldom fall below 4.3 - thus the baopals score takes this into account and a product with 4.3 Taobao/Tmall ratings will receive a baopals score of roughly 3 out of 10.
6. Seller Volume. This number tells you how many products have been sold by this store. A seller with low volume isn’t necessarily a bad choice, as they may be a young store or selling very specific items, but high volume sellers are likely to ship items more quickly. If the seller is from Tmall, you can click “view store” to see more products from this seller.
Just below the product ratings, you’ll see four tabs that can also help in choosing a product:

7. Specifications. Here you will find details related to the brand, manufacturer, product model, material, size, and other useful information. It is automatically translated from Chinese.
8. Product Images. This can be a very useful section if you have further questions or would like to see more of the product. Sellers often include extra images here that show product dimensions, material, how-to, and other useful information. Any text in these images is typically Chinese only, so having a helpful friend who can read Chinese for quick explanations may come in handy.
9. baopals Reviews. We invite baopals shoppers like you to leave reviews on products and help out fellow shoppers.
10. Q & A. If you still have any questions, here you can ask the baopals team, who will investigate and get back to you lickety-split with an answer!
Follow these tips, and you’ll be able to find quality products from conscientious sellers.
